View Full Version : BIG Sony news!!!

Sony fans may be getting treated to a huge announcement on Monday, if the latest rumour doing the rounds is to be believed.

Alluding to an upcoming interview, the team on the AllGamesNetwork podcast hinted that something big will become embargo-free next week. Details were sparse, but the following was said:

"I can tell you this... On June 11th PlayStation nation will be smiling wide, because they are gonna have something the 360 people can only dream of... and it was real time!... Real time I'm tellin' ya! What we saw... we’ve been sworn to secrecy."

The most obvious guess is that a new PS3 exclusive is about to be announced, or that further details of an already-known title are going to see daylight. The name Killzone 2 keeps bubbling up in forum postings. SPOnG, however, is dubious. With Sony having confirmed that the Killzone 2 will be playable at E3, it seems unlikely that the company will be making a big announcement about the game before then.
"Something the 360 people can only dream of", that has to be quote of the century!

Still, I wonder what it is?

If it's anything short of something for chaps to dip their winky in to get virtual sex for free, then I think it's not going to make much of a dent, besides, judging by Terran's signature, SexBox369 has gone past the 11 million mark.

I wonder how much those people were paid to be so apparently excited?

Mmm... still no word, found this though.

Rumors are fun, aren't they? Well, this isn't exactly a rumor, but more like a "you just wait and see!" thing. A recent podcast at All Games has hinted at a huge PS3-related announcement that will hit on June 11.

Obviously, this sounds like the unveiling of a new and exclusive PS3 title, but we don't know what it might be. Killzone 2? Gran Turismo 5 arriving earlier than expected? The entire thing is very mysterious, and it's surprising that we haven't heard anything about a major blockbuster title; a title that has miraculously avoided the probing eyes of the press. All Games responded to the hype by saying this.

"Hey guys, this is Scott from the podcast mentioned in this thread. The game we saw had an embargo of June 10th on it and on the 11th we'll have the developer and creator of the game live on our show so you can ask questions in chat or via skype. Sometimes magazines do in fact leak out before embargos because they have a lead time for printing. That said, the game appears to be very cool and as we said it's something that no 360 owner will be playing. I don't want to break our embargo but as a PS3 owner who hasn't been happy with the game selection, I thought this was a pretty awesome title with a lot of promise."

I think it's Fantavsion 2.

Seriously though, bearing in mind that this announcement is "something 360 owners can dream about" (that one's still killin'
me ), I have come to the following conclusions.

1. Gran Turismo 5 will arrive early - Sony claim 360 owners still lack a good driving game, a load of bollocks I know but you got to see it from their deluded minds.

2. The Agency - an absolutely stunning-sounding MMO that's promising to push the boundaries, something that would hit the 360 hard if successful.

3. A completely new game - maybe a Rockstar exclusive or a new sequel to a previously popular game like Ico or something.

Either way, it's rumour to generate some cash for the billion unsold units they have worldwide and is probably a total overhype.

Oh well, one more day and then we'll know.

Quite a lot of blowharding, and chuffing all over themselves perhaps.

If it's just Killzone 2, then I'll larf my arse right off my body.

Mind you, Halo 3 is a comin', GTA4 isn't exclusive to P$3 anymore...and is Alan Wake coming to Peeeeee3?

Mmm... don't think they would generate all this hype over Killzone 2. I think it's a completely new title, whatever it is.

Not sure about that, "Home" has been getting a lot of press of late, but I guess maybe you could perhaps be right, but I duno, it's just had a fair bit of press already...and it doesn't look great, just some cheapo MMO style area where you can digitally dance with people you've never met and watch each other's youtube type clips in a virtual "cinema".

I think Second Life has got that market sewn up pretty much.

I wonder what it'll be, guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Surely Sony would've announced any big hitters upon the PS3's release, other than GT5, MGS4 and Killzone 2, what else do they have? I'm really trying to rack my brains as to what else it could be but my mind draws a blank.

I only hope for their sake it isn't Metal Gear 4 as that franchise is as cold as yesterday's custard. :|

Whatever it is it better be good. Sony still hasn't given people a reason, especially 360 and wii owners, to absolutely have to have a ps3. The longer it takes the worse it looks for them.

The Agency - an absolutely stunning-sounding MMO that's promising to push the boundaries, something that would hit the 360 hard if successful.
Who's a clever boy then? :sneaky:

The Agency, an upcoming massively multiplayer online PC and Playstation 3 game set in the world of espionage, will be a pick-up-and-play experience that leans heavily on the first-person and third-person shooter genres, Sony Online Entertainment announced today.

The game will start with players choose which agency to join either the stealthy UNITE spy or blazing guns ParaGON mercenaries. The online persistent shooter has what sounds to be a number of original facets to it:

• Become An Elite Agent: The Agency offers hundreds of unique missions with varied end-goals requiring combat, stealth, and style. With gameplay ranging from sneaky assassinations to all out assaults, from vehicle challenges to casinos loaded with mini-games, there's something for every aspiring agent.

• Build Your Own Agency: As players advance through the ranks of their faction, they'll also begin building their own Agencies. Players will increase their power even further by creating Joint Agencies with others.

• Mercenary or spy, the choice is yours: In the Agency, collect the right weaponry, gadgets, vehicles, gear, attire and aliases to gain access to various locales and influence over the people within them.

• Put Operatives to work: Operatives are collectible non-player characters who provide the goods player's desire, the services to keep them alive, and allow them to concentrate on the mission at hand. Operatives work 24/7, regardless of whether players are logged in, and they can even keep them up-to-date through email and instant messages.

• Fun Now, No Waiting: The Agency is not about waiting for the fun to start. At any point, players can take a break from their high-flying career to engage in a number of other activities. Veterans and new players alike can take on other players at the card tables, the shooting range, or in head-to-head combat.

"SOE is looking to take the online gaming industry to new places with The Agency, not only in terms of its theme, but also in its design. It's accessible to all types of players, blending genres and changing up established conventions. It's different from anything SOE has released before," said Matt Wilson, Director of Development, SOE Seattle. "Our goal is to break from traditional online games and provide players with a 'fun now, no waiting' gameplay experience in a dynamic, ever-evolving online world."

Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to make it out to the event where the game was unveiled, so it's not clear if the game's central mechanic will be RPG, with behind-the scenes dice rolls determining everything, or shooter, where aim and finger dexterity determines everything. Possibly a nice blending of the two. Either way, this is one of the first MMO's that has attracted our attention in quite awhile.

Sony is desperate for something, anything to make the the ps3 relevant. They had to hype it up. And the rest of us continue to wait for a reason to buy a ps3. At this rate they're almost going to have to reduce their price point for the holiday season.

capncnut
12-Jun-2007, 03:16 PM
Well Sony are desperate for an MMO that can poke the 360 in the eye (being a console that prides itself on outstanding online capabilities) and I guess this is their way of saying bollocks to Microsoft.

There are a few videos of The Agency online and they are not impressive. When you look at the fine details though - and what it could deliver - is actually quite fearsome and I'm sure ol' Gatesy is "pfft"-ing his way through the reports. But as for being a game that "360 owners can only dream about", no way Jose.

It is very disappointing to say the least and I think Billy-boy could retaliate with a solid kick up the arse by snapping up Shenmue Online. In fact, that would crush The Agency to pieces.

Sony is a bit like the bush administration in the fact that they refuse to admit that they've totally fu**ed things up. They are just determined to stay the course. My friends keep laughing at me because they say sony will never do it, but imo the biggest news they could come up with is a significant price cut. Abotu $100 or so. That way it would be relatively the same price as the 360 elite.

Uh-oh Darth, you've opened a big phat can of worms now dude. I could stand here in front of you and cry (in grown man tones, of course :D) about how abso-f**king-lutely amazing the Shenmue series is.

Shenmue (シェンム) is an adventure game for the Sega Dreamcast, produced and directed by Yu Suzuki of Sega-AM2. Suzuki coined a new genre title, "FREE" (Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment), for the game, based on its unparalleled interactivity and freedom, as well as the innovative real-time and weather systems. However, Shenmue most resembles an adventure game in terms of gameplay focus. Shenmue covers the first chapter of an epic story which continues into Shenmue II. Shenmue is the most expensive video game ever produced, costing an estimated US $70,000,000.

Just think of a third person adventure game (maybe along the lines of Silent Hill but without the horror and more open-ended) and combine it with the Virtua Fighter engine for when you get involved in fights. In the first game, you have a whole Japanese town to explore and you have to find out who murdered your father, who was a respected martial artist that ran a successful little dojo. Yes, if you are into martial arts movies, this could well be the ultimate adventure game for you.

Instead of following the story, you can just explore the town which has capsule toy machines on every street corner (Sonic toys, Virtua Fighter toys, etc), you have a walkman on you at all times and you can buy new cassette tapes every week as they are released, even the batteries run out and you have to replace them. There is also an arcade, which boasts Space Harrier, Hang On, Sega Darts and slot machines among many others. Hell, if you don't want to waste your money on them, you can even win them on disc at store raffles to play on your Sega Saturn at home, how cool is that?

However, if you are more the type who is serious and less bothered about materialistic things, you can spend your money on martial arts moves to practice in the dojo or one of the many parks in the game. There are thousands of characters to interact with in this virtual world and they all have their own lives and homes (if you hang around a store 'till 11pm, you will see the owner lock up shop and go home).

You even have to work for a living as a forklift driver and every morning you race the other workmates in a tricky little forklift race which yields it's own prizes.

The second game went even further by adding more arcade games, gambling dens and three towns (each one is about five times bigger than the original Yokosuka from the first game). Seriously man, the series is well up there with the best but the unfortunate thing is that both games bombed. They were so expensive to make that even if they were technical successes, Sega would've still had trouble breaking even. Darth, you have to check them out and they are well worth re-purchasing a Dreamcast for. Failing that, a graphically updated and re-jigged version of Shenmue II was released on the original Xbox and actually features a bonus movie disc of Shenmue I professionally made from the Dreamcast game. Anyways, here's a vid (or three :sneaky:) to show you how amazing Shenmue is.

No dizziness with this one bro. The controls are a bit sluggish but it's a minor gripe when faced with the sheer awesomeness of what the game delivers. The other mindblowing aspect about Shenmue on the Dreamcast is that the graphics stand up today and still look current-gen for a game made a good 7 years ago. And it's on CD, yes CD!!!

It only failed truly in Europe as the last two Dreamcast games were only released in Asia a couple of months ago. But yeah, it is mind-boggling as to why that mighty console didn't succeed as a whole. Man, some of the BEST games ever made!
