Damn i thought this thread was about politically correct condoms. :p

In any case follow the gentlemna's advice and get rid of me as it is notoriously glitchy. Don't get vista either as they're still working out the bugs with that as well. Go with xp.

Spybot Search & Destroy is good for cleaning spyware Spyware Blaster blocks rogue activex controls CCleaner will remove tracking cookies Often it's a good idea to disable flash, java, and javascript when web surfing. Sure you might miss some video or other content but it speeds up page loads significantly. Also decreases the number of questionable downloaded programs. There are firewall software programs that will notify you when a new DLL attempting to install itself on your PC, but you should be tech savvy to know what to accept and what to deny.

Oh god , I hate it when that happens!! I've lost all the files on my computer twice because i was just to lazy too get decent spyware, virus, and firewall protection. I finally did and it's made a big difference. It's been over two years and i've had no problems.

Since I started using Firefox I have almost or no problems at all with Malware.

Adaware is another free trojaan dtecter and cleaner app I use.

The housecall link is good. Sometimes a smarter trojan will block access to the websites by manipulating the hosts file;

Hijackthis is a good app to use to track down specific items in the registry or running background apps and remove them. Its a little bit complex and you must be careful but with the complexity of todays Malwars it may be an option you are forced to use in tandem with spyware cleaning app. Some of the apps (or most) dont do a complete job. It is prudent to use a combinatio of apps and not rely on just 1.

Free version Zonealarm is top quality for this purpose. When I get a notice that a stange unfamiliar app id asking for permission to acess internet, I deny it. First I notre the name and search it out, then do a malware scan. If the loader can acess the web, you cannot be a host computer.

Zonealarm is simple enough and mega powerful. hIghest reccomendation

I caught something with ME, which eats it heartily anyway, and was going to install XP over it before that happened. Lost files either way but not important ones. So glad ME is out of my life.:)

Don't forget a registry cleaner.:|

It might be against forum rules to post links of that nature. Better check the faq first.

Spy Bot - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
A-Squared - http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
Adaware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Keep running these over and over until they find nothing. Then reboot and repeat...

If that doesn't work you're in for a painful time possibly!

ps: The last time I had problems, it was something coming in via Explorer. That made me move to FireFox.

I hear you, Just adding clarity. I was actually too busy to search out the links. Normally I would spend the time btw.

First rule of avoiding spyware
DONT USE INTERNET EXPLORER!!!
ecspecially if you searching Pron or looking for "patches". Thats how most people get screwed. If you use IE disable active X. Even then, your GOING to get a virus through IE.

Just use Firefox. It rules. The extension (add ons) function is THE BEST. My love for Firefox knows no bounds:p. The "noscript" extension is key. Its sorta like a firewall in that you can set permissions for every java script and Active X. Either blocked, tenmporary or permanent.

Porn will screw you every time. The first thing a computer geek asks you when you have a virus, is" have you been downloading porn?" I don't mind admiting it. Some people are just too embarased to admit that they whack off to porn.

Alright, pull out the boxing gloves.

Besides there's no way I could 'star' in porn. You don't see much demand for A-cup actresses.

....now nubile young men.... I think that one's called Brokeback something???
