I don't know if you are aware but Shogun Assassin was nothing more than a 90 minute compilation taken from the first two films in a Japanese series called, Lone Wolf and Cub (which is around nine hours long in total).

The films are:
Lone Wolf and Cub - Sword of Vengeance
Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart at the River Styx
Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart to Hades
Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart in Peril
Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart in the Land of Demons
Lone Wolf and Cub - White Heaven in Hell

You can pick up all six films in a DVD boxset for around £30, check 'em out mate.

I'm surprised you don't own these already. It's usually the reason why people get into swordplay movies and/or swords in general. Start off with Shogun Assassin and if you like it, you can get the box set.

Here's the trailer.

I like swordfilms, but Samuraifilms are so cliché. There's a dozen thousand scenes with two people looking each other down. They run at each other, one of them strikes and then... Deadly silence! Nobody moves until, ten seconds later, one of them falls dead.

That is, ino, more of a hallmark than a cliche. Besides it's what happens in between that counts.
The Lane wolf and cub films are excellent and the Old TV show of it is great too. Thers a lot going on before he does the backhand slice.

Oh yeah, Ned?
Seven Samurai beyotch!

USED to be a hallmark. Now it's a cliché. Seven Samurai is excellent, as is Yojimbo. But those are old. These days, that cliché I mentioned is repeated at least 10 times in each of these films.

I guess I
1. Only watch the Older films
2. Havent seen enough in general to know its a cliche now.
:)

The Lone Wolf and Cub manga is one of the best comics ever made, btw
