Did you like it?
Hate it?
Or Tolerated it?

Actually I liked the first and the second Scream, it did have a good
story line to it, I like the comments it made on violence and society,
also liked the way they kept the killer a secret to the end.
Neve Campbell was great (course anything with Neve gets me going:sneaky: )

The third one kind of disappointed me. It wasn't as well written or
done as the first two. There were a lot of cheesy lines in it and
some overacting. You could tell that Kevin Williamson didn't
write this script.

The third one is kind of blah:barf: :dead: but the first two were
good. What did you think?

at the time they were a breath of fresh air in an increasingly stale genre, but now they spawned so many wank imitators that ,like many with the matrix and blair witch you cant watch the origional because its been parodied and copied to death.

The first one is great and i can watch it over and over again. Like many franchises the quality drops with each successive film. I find the 3rd one unwatchable.

It's funny that I just got to re-watch Scream this weekend and it was probably the first time in 4 or 5 years since I had seen it. I thought Scream was excellent and, though I sympathize with people who are not down with the whole cashing-in on that take on the horror film that followed in the original's wake, I thought it was great fun.

Scream 2 was also a fantastic sequel, while the third installment sucked ass. The unfortunate blow back from the whole overblown film craze from the 'unorthodox', comicky, young & beautiful take on the horror film, was that it really seemed to cut down on traditional genre-types (i.e. zombie movies) for that period. However, it was probably a badly needed reboot to an industry that had become way too stale, anyway. Then the 'reboot' became stale and people started looking for more earnest sorts of horror films and the traditional sorts made their eventual come back.

I think that scream made it possible for the rise in popularity of torture porn we see today, even though scream is tame by those standards. It's the same way interest in making LOTD was piqued by the success of 28 days later and dawn 04', although that's debatable.

I liked the first Scream A LOT. I still remember where I went to see it and who I saw it with and where we sat and the exact progression of characters that popped into my mind as the possible killer... of course I was wrong everytime. I thought it was awesome because of the geeky horror loving characters, the horror loathing characters, and any chick whos fat ass can't make it through the doggy door and dies ... I mean that was just pure entertainment for me as someone who's snuck in through many a dog door. The first one had a lot of substance and the opening sequence really grabbed me and set the bar very high for the rest of the movie. It not only met the bar but carried a good pace throughout.

However part two sucked and part three sucked. Part three just turned entirely stupid and part two was great and all but I just didn't like it and felt like it was a waste of time to watch more than once.

If anyone's interested the Soundtracks for both Scream 1 and 2 ROCK...

The soundtracks are really good.
I agree, the spawn of movies that came later
weren't all that great. "I know what you did last summer"
Part 1 and 2, cashed in on Scream's popularity, then along
came the teen movie slasher films, but at the time, it was
like hellsing said, a breath of fresh air.

I really like the trilogy. It was nice to have in a decade that, I felt, hardly had any good horror/slasher films. Haven't watched them in many years, though. Not quite sure if I'd feel the same way.

I loved the first one. Awesome example of how to mix humor and horror.

I saw the second and third in the theater, but were let by both. I felt they were unnecessary an convoluted.

Come to think about it i can't really remember the first half of the first movie. I was too busy watching rose McGowan's body parts bouncing all over the place. :D

I'm afraid I'm not a lover of any of the Scream movies, shallow gloss if you ask me.

I loved the first one. It was well written and I think the reason it worked so well was because of the time it was made. I did like the second one and thought it was just as good as the first. But I think the reason I like the first two so much is because I think it was the last time Wes Craven has made anything worth watching. Once he made Scream 3 his short comeback was over and the quality of his films took another dive.

I think he just got full of himself and thought that he could just put any old thing out there and the public would just eat it up. He is wes craven after al. Lucas suffers from a similar form of dimentia. These guys need to get back to their roots.

Well, I think it's safe to say that Lucas will never be able to get back to his roots. American Graffiti, Star Wars, and THX 1138 are the only great movies he directed and all the others like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi were simply story concepts he came up with and produced. In those three cases Lawrence Kasdan wrote the scripts and good directors worked their magic with Lucas on the sidelines. I'll admit the man has imagination, but it really only works when it's in somebody else's hands. I think with his first three directing experiences, he had a limited budget that forced him to improvise and that made the final products better, but since he is super rich you know he'll never do that again.

I never really liked Wes a whole lot to begin with ... Scream kinda made me like him but Scream 3 ruined my infatuation...

Wes is very hit or miss. I like Scream 1 and 2 and the Nightmare on Elm Streets he worked on. Other than that, his work is mostly flat.

Speaking of Wes Craven.....is The Serpent And The Rainbow a good movie?....it looks pretty good and from the previews it looks like something I might be interested in....

It's very Jacob's ladderish. it had the same WTF is going on here feel imo. It's not anything to write home about.

Except for the first Nightmare one Elm street
and Scream 1 and 2, Wes Craven's movies
haven't been on the top of my list.

Other than The Hills Have Eyes, A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Serpent and the Rainbow, everything Wes Craven has made is total crap. The most overrated horror director in history!

It's much better if you've read up on the story behind it.

That's true. Although i don't think it's based on a true story the things that happen in the film are said to have been commonplace in haiti.

RustyHicks

Yeah a read that too. I think it's based more on
events then an actual story.
