HD-DVD is just getting stomped this week. Blu-Ray is serving it everywhere. Even Microsoft's HD-DVD player price cut isn't looking like it'll be enough.
BJ's Wholesale is a major Eastern chain and this is a semi-large hit. If Wal-Mart and the Wal-Mart owned Sam's Club follow suit, it's curtains for HD-DVD, see.
BJ's will continue to sell HD-DVDs from their website, but will no longer carry the format in-store.
As Joystiq notes, Microsoft could always make a Blu-Ray add-on for the 360... could it happen?
This link goes into greater detail.

Looks like Blue Ray might win.
Bad, bad news for HD and people
who bought HD.
Guess they'll buy Blue-Ray
or stick with their own DVD player.

I thought that the point they made about ms adding a blu ray player peripheral to the 360 was interesting. If they do end up doing that then them not including it standard with the 360 like the ps3 did with blu ray might have been a very savvy business move. That way whichever format wins they their console can support it. Sony doesn't have that luxury with the ps3.

If that is done, they'll be able to save some face at least.
Ahhh, the war is ending...before it even got a good chance to begin

By doing that they alienate Universal Studio films because Universal is HD-DVD exclusive, and some of the major films to be released in the last 40 years were from Universal Studio's.

If they made a move like this i'm sure that they were aware of the ramifications. It reminds me of when the first signs were given that umd's were doomed to fail. Pretty much the same thing happened with large chain stores ceasing to carry the format. So there's a pretty recent precedent for this type of stuff.

Either way it is sad because HD-DVD is the superior format, not too mention the porn industry signed on with HD-DVD because Blu-Ray said no.
