I'm not saying I believe it. Just that I believe it would be COOL. Having said that, the AICN story below mentions it. Follow the second link to their 'source' and take with a big grain of salt. The writing on that site is so bad I'm not sure that I put any credence to it at all....

First they run, then they jump and leap, then they f*cking fly...now they lay waste to urban centres!:lol:

If it was true, perhaps it's some kinda big ass explosion of chemical sh*t or space crap and it turns people freaky-deaky...if that's the case, I sincerely hope they don't f*cking run if they are indeed people who have died and resurrected.

I don't think it's a zombie flick... it's clearly going to be a monster movie. The images claiming to be zombies are just people wandering the ruined streets.

The scale of this film is way to large to be a zombie movie.

Run they must! Well, they can eventually slow down because of decay, but honestly, slow zombies just aren't scary anymore. Once the dead come back to life to start an outbreak you really need to have them run, otherwise Shaun of the Dead would be the most accurate depiction of how long it would last... One - two days at most, because the military would just wipe them out and it would be business as normal. Now if they ran... HO!, it would be more like the Dawn remake... one day everything gone. That is how you destory the world my zombie loving friends.

Hrm....and I thought you understood Romero's films:eek:

I do understand Romero's films and for their time they accurately depicted the world we lived, but alas, no more. The world has become a fast paced version of itself... think about it. Both parents now work, everything is fast food this fast food that. We work longer hours for the same money, we are told we need to be quicker at what we do, and how we complete things. The days of taking your time are long gone.

Romero's Dawn... a commentary on capitalism, Dawn 2004 a commentary on how quick you have to be on your feet to think based on how the world goes around today.

bassman
06-Aug-2007, 04:08 PM
No no....I see what you're saying there, but I was talking about your statement that slow zombies are no longer scary. Not the fact that the commercialism commentary has changed.

Aside from the different social commentaries in each of Romero's films, the basic one in each is that the dead aren't the antagonists....it's the humans. This was only lightly touched in the remake of Dawn with the cookie cutter security guard and the typical "i'm a bad mutha f*cka" cop.

It doesn't matter that they're slow. It's always the human's fault that the dead get to them because we can't work together. Dawn04 lacked in this area...

See I disagree, I think Zack did the opposite in that they ended up working together to get themselves out of the mall, it was Steve Marcus who ended up compromising them because of his own selfish agenda. I think Snyder captured both ends of the spectrum just fine.

Well....they worked together to get the vans ready just as the four in the original got the mall ready to live in. And then the girl went after her damn dog and messed their sh*t up just like the bikers messed the original crew's sh*t up.

The bikers in the original served a purpose, while I feel the girl going after her dog(seriously....who would be that f*cking dumb?) was only a simple device to move the plot along to the climax.

What sort of group of people would ride around on motorcycles during a zombie apocalypse stealing jewelry (seriously, who would be THAT f*cking dumb)?

That's what they did before the dead started walking. "That's a professional army."

They're a biker gang, hellbent on having fun during death and destruction, stealing all that they can now that it's laid out on a silver platter (surrounded by zombies).

Totally bassman, the point in the zombie is that they're a mirror of us, they cause *US* to f*ck everything up, we can't work together that much, people give way and see about their own needs, it's the human condition, there's always a bunch of weak links and the whole chain comes crashing down and the zombies take over.

Slow zombies ARE scary, it just has to be handled properly, and the likes of James Gunn and Zack Snyder can't handle it.

Ironically, I dig the fast zombies in Deadlands. :) Of course, those are the most realistic fast zombie I think, slow when nobody's around, slow after decay and the old riggor setting in, but fast when the prey is near ... not like the squawking track stars who can hand-over-hand climb across a ceiling in the dark and leap onto people before jumping like gymnasts into flames and a chain link fence.

And yes, that dumb bitch going after the dog pissed me off big style - hence the sign off for the first I Am Zombie Man - "you humans always manage to f*ck things up somehow, like, running after a dog or something...":sneaky:

Besides, a slow zombie makes the most sense, the point in a zombie is that they (at least for the first couple of years anyway) are basically drunk toddlers ... with a taste for internal organs. A zombie is 'zoned out', they're beyond comprehension - again, for the first couple of years. Basically, it's like resetting their brains back to zero, but never letting them regain a variety of normal human faculties - like speech (or at least proper speech).

Fast zombies, like in Yawn-o-rama'04 is just way to easy for such a film, peddle it to some MTV viewers and ooh, that's scary...pfft...as I've said before, anything running at you is scary. Even if Jessica Alba came running at me with the fires of hell in her eyes, blood and gore dripping from her mouth and screaming like a banshee I'd crap myself and flee.

...

Back to the bike gang in Dawn, they weren't dumb, they were batsh*t crazy...criminals unleashed.

Speaking of this running thing, it does work, but not in a zombie film - i.e. it works in 28 Days/Weeks Later, because they're NOT zombies, merely rage infected human beings.

Speaking of 28WL, I watched it finally today, f*cking loved it. I was totally wrong when I moaned about it being made originally, I figured it was gonna be a sucky cash-in sequel ... it totally wasn't. It's a shame I'm not this wrong more often, because there'd be many more good flicks out there...but alas...anyway, 28WL rocks, on a par with the original easily...tails off a bit at the end, and there were a handful of really annoying bits (well, they pissed me off anyway), but over-the-piece it was a quality flick.

My thing is, I see the fast zombies as scarier, they pose a real threat, whether in large numbers or a small group. Slow zombies only get their strength in large numbers... tis not a bad thing, I mean lets be honest if the dead came back to life I wouldn't want to have to deal with either type, but the fast zombie is just something people will have to deal with now.

For me the use of fast zombies in DAWN 04 is not only scarier, but sets the tone for the world we live in, seriously you can't blame DAWN 04 for catering to the movie audiences. Zack Snyder certainly wasn't the first to use Running Zombies... he just made it work well for the material he had.

Let me say this, I am a zombie fan through and through. I will take any type of zombie film i can get, fast, slow, flying, leaping, coke snorting, ash licking... whatever. Zombie horror films are more grounded in reality than most other type of horror films. The simple thought of it happening is scary, yet we all know it could possibly never happen, but with all the advancements in medical technology and general human research... how far off could it be from happening, I mean the flesh eating is probably far fetched a bit, but in todays technology advanced world it does open a real possibility, and if it did happen you should take into account they could be either Runners or Shamblers.

As far as my zombie films go... I still love Romero's DAWN, it is in my top 5, but I also dig DAWN 2004, that is also in my top 5. My whole thing is the use of running zombies is just way more terrifying. Slow zombies haven't been scary since Day of the Dead. No one will put up the scratch to make the definitive zombie film, and until someone does that I take what i can get and what i have gotten from both Romero and Snyder has been great entertainment.

My main point of grievance is that, slow zombies make the most medical and realistic sense. A zombie is supposed to be clumsy and incapable of a lot of things. Running ... and even hand-over-hand climbing across a ceiling strut ... is a complicated task that requires a sharp mind with control over all the limbs.

Zombies can't even walk properly, so how could they manage to run, it just doesn't make realistic sense, that's where I'm coming from essentially.

A running zombie can and does work from time to time - like you did with Deadlands, that just works.

But as you well know, I thought Yawn04 was an awful film, disrespectful, idiotic and pandering.

28 Days/Weeks Later definitely works, and of course - those aren't zombies, so that's okay.

My view of us being the cause of our downfall, despite the starter being the zombies themselves.

I don't get where technology or modern times comes into it, whatever renders somebody a zombies is supposed to be a debilitating disease, they're brought back to "pure motorised instinct", and little else...they're like monkies again, they've devolved.

...

*sigh*

Ah well, agree to disagree? :p Otherwise we'll end up like myself and Liam in a political discussion, banging our heads against each other's immovable walls.

How could it be Lost: The Movie? Some people really are idiots, there's none of the characters in the trailer, and also, I'd think they'd use cameras a bit fancier than your average miniDV to shoot it...plus there'd be a load of info about a Lost movie, they couldn't keep that sh*t quiet...besides, they're too busy with the last 3 (shortened) seasons.
