View Full Version : At what point do you prompt vandalism?

I'm not sure if this is a lounge discussion or general discussion so mods please forgive me... I just bought a new car and lately i'm the subject of an odd action against my new vehicle... someone keps pushing my side mirrors either all the way left or all the way right... not pushing the whole mirror mount itself like compacting it against the car to squeeze into a car park spot next to me... I mean they're pushing the mirror within the mount... what pisses me off is its an electric mirror and i'm scurred they're gonna break it and i'll have to fix it... but what i'm wondering is (besides who's doing it and why)... if I left a abrasive message on my mirror would that be prompting a more firm vandalism towards my vehicle or myself? Or at the very least might it point towards who's doing it? I dont really wanna stakeout my own car because my neighborhood isn't the safest at all but I need to know wtf is up?

scurred

Stop it :p

As far as your car is concerned...I'd suggest moving the mirror housing in slightly and adjusting the mirror to allow you to balance a rat trap between the lips of the mirror housing and your driver side window, then stakeout the car with shotgun in hand.

PS--Don't really do any of the above. It's a ****ty situation, especially if you live in a shady neighborhood. What you might want to do is try and narrow down the time frame in which this mirror adjusting is happening. It sounds like something a kid with a crush might do, but it's good to be aware, as a woman, that you're getting undesirable attention from someone.

people are probably just walking alongside it or parking alongside it and budging it like that.

mind you every time i walk home i smack this roadsign so it swings round a bit so maybe it's somebody's little ritual in the same vein.

who knows.

maybe just carefully bent your mirrors back so they dont have to do it

Thats sometimes happen when kids, and people too old to be doing it, are hanging out loafing and are leaning against your car.

At first I thought it might be kids too but y'see... no kids live where I live... and it didn't really make any sense to me because this is just my new used car... no one touched my old POS car... and its parked where no one really walks by it because everyone where I live is so damn lazy that they park really close to the buildings and I park farthest away... I have been getting some undesireable attention from a new tennant who lives by the parking lot and faces it but it still irks me like crazy... I'm bothered by walking from my car to my house wondering if someone is trying to see what unit I live in ... i'm just glad to finally be moving at the beginning of next month

In a follow up to the mystery... I left a note on my mirror... woke up and my car door handle was keyed with a word I wouldn't use on my worst female enemy... the police officer was great... he pretended he really cared and even gave me his card and doubted i'd ever find out who did it... i'm just hoping the paint shop can repair it because I'm loving the color of my car... and i'm equally hoping to find the SOB who did it so I can beat him to death with my beady fists...:mad::mad:

The rat trap and shot gun approach are sounding better already, I bet!

Sh1t, I'm sorry to hear this. Nothing worse than cowardly vandals

Good luck and be careful!

I make an attempt to never be careful... I like to pretend to be vulnerable to try to entice criminals ... I'm sure I can find their testicles with my eyes closed... they're the ones who should be afraid... dont they know I love torture porn :)

Any low life who would key someones car for no reason deserves to have his balls or tits sliced off with a ginzu knife. There is nothing more corwardly than keying someone's car, if someone did that to my Mustang I would have to slowly torture them for at least month sticking tooth picks through there nipples.

Do you really think a toothpick would pierce the skin? I would use one of those two pronged BBQ tools to pierce the skin through... and then stick a big fat knitting needle through there and keep twisting the needle... it would be my take on the purple nurples...

Of course if it was a dude I'd go LeCheif on his ass and cut out the bottom of a chippendale chair find some weights and a rope and treat him like James Bond heh... that was one of the greatest movie scenes of all time...

Sorry you're going through this. I know how frustrating it is to have your vehicle messed with. Have you considered a sensitive car alarm? They're not a huge deterent, but I doubt someone would keep right along scratching away with the horn blaring to beat the band.

Meh i'm too cheap to buy a car alarm... in other good news since I found out who was doing it after taking out some trash at 4something in the am... the jerkoff was like creeping around my car looking inside of it... I went back to my apartment and called the 'courtesy cop' who was actually home for once and he came right over and literally caught the effer red handed... and the reason this guy gave for effing with me?

Apparently I was ruuuuuuuuuuude to him... I totally knew who he was in the daylight... he came over to me the day I bought my new car and mumbled something to me and I was like I'm sorry I dunno... then he disappeared to the mailboxes and I figured out he was asking me if I knew where the mailboxes were for his building and right after I was done unloading my car I had to check my mail so he musta thought I was lying or something I dunno... for the next couple of days he'd walk past me with his friends and saw the most lewd things like that turns a female on or something and I told him if he had something to say to make like a na and say it to my face instead of 20 feet from me with his friends as protection... it only escalated from there... I have no recourse though... I'm suing him for the damages but as always i'll be lucky to ever see that money...

Last time I actually found out who had messed with my car I just returned the favor. Never play the car game with a good mechanic.

NOICE! Which reminds me I have to buy auto repair for morons... as soon as I move i'm going to begin to 'tinker' with my car... I'm so tired of relying on the mechanics at Pep Boys to be honest with me when (much like doctors) they're only making money when something wrong... plus I used to visit a gas station mechanic who I actually witnessed (after investing hundreds of dollars to repair my vehicle on previous visits) spraying oil or something under my car and then he pointed out to me that it was leaking whatever he sprayed... after more than a few complaints they were put out of business but no doubt are practicing somewhere else...

Might wanna try www.cartalk.com and check under mechanic's files. Pretty good source of information. Also word of mouth and owning a tech manual for your car are important. Even if you never spin a ratchet being able to flip open a book and see what they are going to do puts you a step ahead of many people.

Yeah the dealership I bought my car from took the manual outta my car once I bought it and then when I went to grab it to read it I saw that it was gone... they said ooops we'll order you one... but it wont be in for another week or so I imagine if the guy ever ordered me one anyway... I do love to read the car manuals (its fun there's neat info in there) and I'm a huge fan of Click and Clack the Tapit Bros. but their car information never answered my question about my previous car which had a problem no mechanic, or dealership could ever solve. I should ship it to Boston and let them tinker with it... that car has no shortage of serious malfunctions it would be like a fun puzzle for them I bet.

I was actually referring to Haynes, Chilton, or the actual factory service manuals. Though your owner's manual is a valuable resource. Haynes manuals are available at Autozone for about $17. If you don't get into major electrical work they're all you need.
The idea for someone who does not wish to get into repairing thier own car is just to read through. If your mechanic states that to change a blower motor they need to remove the powersteering pump and alternator (FWD GM cars through the mid 80s to mid 90s) you can confirm this with the book. If they are quoting you procedures that are BS, take your business elsewhere.
Personally I do most of my own work. It saves money, unless I really screw-up and I know it's done right.

Hmm... I shall go to autozone to look up this book you speak of. I would very much like to learn how to repair my own car because I'm very much trying to locate and buy a POS late 60s Camaro prefferably Yenko Camaro and restore it to all its splendor... so either I have to begin growing money trees, find a man who knows car repair and wrap 'im around my finger, or make like a modern day woman and learn it for myself which is an invaluable skill and can be utilized time and again... obviously I prefer the latter... Just thinking of how much I spent on car repairs in the past year makes me ill... nearly 2k and 500 of that was to repair an alternator that was put into my car by the repair shop and then ruined my battery and broke again and the repair shop not only charged me to tow my car but they charged me to diagnose the problem THEIR REPAIR caused... fortunately after paying them for a whole new repair I reached the brain of one of their assosciates and he gave me a partial refund but i'm still irked...

Took my new car to get the brakes checked out today... loved how the guy pointed out like fifty things that 'need' to be done... I dont dress in Christian Dior why does the guy think I have money for this crap? And just how dumb do I look? Grrr why couldn't I have been born a redhead or brunette or man!
