He's one of the primary driving forces behind Bush, the article pretty much explains that. He had quite a bit of power and he was in no way elected, and he doesn't exactly have the American people in mind (government by the people, for the people, anyone?)

I'm a former Republican (driven to Independent status by the current Administration) and I feel the same way.
