Apparently Metallica doesn't have enough money already. (lolz)

Edit: Oh yea, I thought I'd mention before anyone else does, that yes, I do know.

First they effed up Napster... and now this... its official... if I ever listen to Metallica again it will be a stolen and/or copied CD that I didn't have to pay a red cent for... why should those greedy bastards get fat with my hard earned money? Who died and made them copyright infringement hall monitor?

Who cares about Metallica? They haven't made a decent record since ...And Justice for All. :dead:

Ah geez, get all their music from videogames? Are they freaking insane?

You don't give away your music for free to videogames, it's licensed, that involves money...money which they've got plenty of already.

There's a vast, yawning chasm between Napster and Guitar Hero 3. Are any of the other bands worried? No they're not, because no doubt their album sales have risen/will rise because people will enjoy playing the tracks on the game, and then seek out the actual albums.

eh? i dont get it, the metallica song "A"? i've never heard of that one.

maybe i missed the point (pretty tired at the moment) but arent they just trying to get royalties for a song of theirs used in a game?

i dont really get the metallica bashing. so lars and james sued napster a few years back. so what? it didnt make it harder to download music at all - in fact it made it easier, because napster was pretty rubbish (no download resume, took AGES to download stuff even on t3), yet everyone used it. the death of napster opened up the p2p market and paved the way for stuff like audiogalaxy, limewire, torrents etc.

james & lars were just dumb i think. they didnt fully understand what napster was.

people wank on about "oh theyll never get a penny of my money, the greedy bastards" - urm HELLO? ALL BANDS ARE GREEDY! it's quite possible to just record music for fun and release it for free, musicians only pursue their band as a career if they think they can get some of your money.

most bands have "real" jobs outside of their bands, so it's not like they have to sign to a label that charges you 15.99 for a cd that cost 34p to make or they'll starve. it's greed, theyre not happy with making a decent living and having a hobby like everyone else, they want drugs, girls, guns, cars, guitars, houses whatever.

theyre happy to sign to labels that will overcharge you for cds just for the chance to make a couple pennies off every cd sold. every signed band is greedy.
(btw i'm not saying im any better, id sign the dotted line in a second)

and metallica rule. if you havent listened to the first 3 all the way through you should trade in whatever garbage youve been listening up until now in for copies ;)
yeah their records suck now, but so do most bands who've been going for 25 years, and the sheer quality of the the first half of their career and the excellent lives shows they put on to this day redeem any dodginess over the past decade.

Totally agree... but also... their stuff all sounds the same too... I can understand Hetfields voice will always sound a certain way but like everything in their songs is the same... grrr...

simple solution to this problem, everyone can boycott their music and not get licenses to use it in games, movies and whatever else and see how much they cry about it. radio stations can do their part too by not playing them anymore

I actually haven't heard metallica on the radio since I was in high school... so in nearly 8 years... wowzers... and THANK GOD

everyone has their opinion, and no person's opinion is any more valid than someone else's

...unless you think a nu metal band like Trust company is better than a thrash metal band

also james' voice sounds totally different on kill em all to what it sounds like on master of puppets, and its sounds different again on the black album...
cmon man, at least do them the justice of listening to them before you dismiss them

Metallica was the band that encouraged bootlegs of their shows until they started to make money. They become rich bastards, sue their fans for doing what they originally encouraged (but in a different form) and now this story pops up. I really don't belive that it's a true story, but I still wouldn't put it past them to do this.

I quit listening to Metallica when Load and Reloaded sucked harder than a porn star.

well you have a point there, but i still think the sheer size of the KISS merchandise empire makes them greedier than metallica

Kiss never made any pretensions to Integrity, so they cant sell out by definition. They were designed to be a money machine. If Kiss sued fans it would be in line with their credo. Get all the money. On the flip side...
Metallica used to say "we are the same as our fans". They were, now they are not. I dont see how anyone can say they haven't turned into assholes. Ever see Some Kind of Monster. Hefield is a real douchebag. Funny, LArs is cooler than I thought but Hetfield is way worse. All records after And Justice for All are lame as hell. Thats like 15 years of total crap since. If They were around as young broke guys with the internet they would DL too.

Same old nonsense.

And dont give me any crap about "listen to the Music" I was following them since before many of you were even born, dammit. Whippersnappers.

However, I met them all personally around Justice and I liked them all alot. Jason Newstead is one of the niocest guys I ever met. That guy is COOOOL.

well obviously metallica was right for sueing napster. because look what has happened. the recrd insdustry has died because of it. no one buys records anymore because they can download them for free and put them on their ipods. its not just about metallica, its about all bands. especially young independent bands who spened a few thousand dollars to record a cd and then gets ****ed when some dude buys it, puts it on the internet for download. metallica was right for sueing napster. i don't really care about this video game thing or w/e. the fact of the matter is, that when you reach the amount of success that metallica has, you're not just a band anymore. you're a business. its not about money. its about having the right to own what is yours. their music is theirs. bottom line. they can do what they want with it. but you can't just steal it and make ur own profit from it. i don't care how rich i get, if were to become a successful entertainer and people were just taking my art and using it for whatever the hell they wanted to without giving me something in return, you bet ur sweet ass im gonna sue. but of course since this metallica and they've taken action before to try and protect their music, everyone's gonna get their panties in a bunch and bitch about how they're greedy and ****... botom line is, we're all greedy. if you wrote some of the greatest music ever written and people were just stealing it using it for god knows what, you wouldn't sue either? if you wouldn't, you'd be an idiot.

"One" is probably the only song by Metallica that I really, really enjoy, and I am super-stoked that it's going to be on GH3. :D I can't really see how they can get so upset by something like this:rolleyes:, it can really only help to increase their (fading) popularity.

if you like "one", check out "welcome home (sanitarium)" and "fade to black".

it's like a trilogy

if you want to call that music :barf:

Okay I am not going to let that remark piss me off.
Just that being a musician (yes I am I might not be a suckessful one, but at least I am not in it fior the $) that has had obsticle after obsticle thrown in the way.I respect the guys of Metallica.I respect anybody that gets to do what they love and makes a living at it.They have been around, and I think an artist has the right to get paid for their work.It does make a difference.

Now that I have vented, I thank you for you time , I bid you good day.

MissJacksonCA
27-Aug-2007, 11:27 PM
I was being entirely facetious with that remark but there is a great deal of music today that I dont regard as such... for instance rap. I appreciate all kinds of music beyond what's the norm for todays standards and what constantly shocks and amazes me is how some of it ever makes its way to a CD/record/8track or whatever... personally though... while Metallica at one point made music worth listening to... the quality of it has degenerated to the extent where I wouldn't filter dirty kitty litter with it of course i'd have to buy it first to do that...

And yeah... it sucks to have music you create stolen from you or any ideas you promote at work to be claimed origional by someone else... c'est la vie... you dont know metallica and can't say they've never stuck it to someone else beneath them on the feeding chain man... I generally presume most people at the top got there because there's no rungs for the weak on the ladder of success and being strong sometimes means you have to steal from others... while that's not my personal path and I would never take it... I dont think Metallica has any integrity ...

and i dont mean to upset you its just an opinion man...
