View Full Version : Raising Money Through eBay

I have seen a lot of people do it, but never thought it would work. Yesterday I made an eBay post to raise money to do the extended version of Trapped/TheEscape and was shocked to see someone actually did buy one of the Executive Producer credits.

I listed 100 available spots at $100 a piece, and am using this money to shoot large zombie sequences in downtown Hagerstown, MD. If we sell all 100 spots that would net the production an extra $9247.00 after eBay and Paypal fees.

If you guys are interested, or know someone who is interested please pass this along. The film once completed already has a guaranteed distribution deal, and I will send those who buy in the screenplay and a screener copy of both the finished film in extended form, and a screener of the zomb-thology project once completed. Completion is expected by late spring 2008.

If it gets the movie made the way it needs to be done... it's worth every single minute.

Did you watch the Romero at Comic Con video? He talks a little bit about this sort of idea, he said something about making sure you have the disclaimers signed and make sure the people know what they're getting so they can't suddenly sue you or something.

Basically, I think it's to be treated as a donation with credit given, rather than investing, which has legal complications and most likely giving money out to a whole bunch of people and all that sort of complex maths.

You've probably already covered these thoughts, but I just thought I'd mention them regardless.

When the pay they get an email from me explaining the entire detail of the money they invest and what the investment is considered.

Sold a total of 6 so far, which has netted us an extra $558 after eBay and Paypal fees.

Not bad, it's all good in the hood. A good way to help indie filmmaking I guess. :)

I was unaware this was being done by other film makers on eBay, but am unsurprised.

How is this coming along, DJ?

We get a little here and there, but nothing major. In the last month I think we raised $1100.00 I put it up again under Multiple Producer credits (hoping to pull together another $900 at least.)
