When I was rotting in jail for 27 days I often thought of what would happen to the people in the jail / prison system of a country if zombies invaded and took over.

I assumed after everything fell apart the prisoners would all be released, But then really no gov't would exist so the guards could really let you rot away in your cell till you starve and die.

thoughts?

Somebody brought that up recently about Peter's brother ("one's in jail").

Yeah, just hope you aint in a jail that Ms Jackson happens along to for protection, she has already said she would non-discriminantly kill every prisoner in the jail to save her own ass, because of course all prisoners are hardedend criminals who would rape and beat and kill her, rather than treat her like a human being.....

I agree... TWD did an awesome job of a prison idea but still left e with a few unanswered questions and I haven't finished reading them since I haven't ordered any in a while... but they did a sweet take prisons...

Sounds like you're angry with her opinions? You'd better not murder any children before a zombie outbreak or Sheriff Jackson is going to shoot you in your cell. Putting drug dealers, and minor criminals aside.....would you open the bars for hard core criminals?

I think with people running for their lives, those who are in jail will mostly be forgotten about.

I am certainly not "angry" with her opinions, I just think they are a little immature and close-minded.

Absolutely I would open the bars for hardened criminals. When the zombie outbreak happens, the laws of our country will no longer exist. You cant go through every jail asking every prisoner what they did. You have to give those people a fighting chance too.

What if you happened upon a jail and as soon as you walked in there were 100 pisoners in there hollaring to let them out. They are starving, thirsting to death and have no one to bring them anything. You dont know how long they have been in there without food or water. If any prisoner that is in there with them dies, well you know what happens.

There is no way to know what thier "offenses" were. Should you leave the guy that got busted with an ounce of pot in there simply because he is in the same cell as a guy who commited armed robbery?

No, you let them all go so they can all have a fighting chance. Just because someone is in doesn't mean that they are a criminal!

Immature... perhaps... or just a firm believer in the death penalty...

Yeah Jim most people dont care for my belief that prisoners are typically not worth saving but I was talking about Super Max prisons and their captives... most people seem to conveniently gloss over that...

A prison is an eden in a zombie world but every eden must be kept secret... if you're in a zombie world you have to fight to survive and i'm sorry... I have a hard time trusting people in a non zed world I'd never trust prisoners to flee the only safe place in the world ... thats just silly... and because its the only safe place where you could possibly safely grow crops and sustain life (it does after all have a infirmary) it would be a target for other people and not just prisoners... and with the corruptability of most people I couldn't trust them enough to let them in because hey... they could be the wrong kinda people to help...

Basically if zombies take over and I find a prison or a mall i'm making like CJ and screwing everyone else... I'm out for myself and i'd be selective about who I let in...

For this and other crazy ramblings tune in daily to Ayns! Your source for insanity! :moon:

I fear with an attitude such as yours, MissJack, that you probably would not have to worry about takig anyone out, you would probably have to be more worried about someone taking you out.

You seem to think that if it ever happens, that you can make it alone.

Have to disagree with the 'making it alone' theory, certainly wouldn't work. Even the toughest woman/man alone in a world like this might be able to survive zombies with little or no brain power for a little while, but sooner or later other humans will get the best of them. If I was a woman, I'd decrease the chances that I'd up as a gang-rape entertainment tool by starting the journey with a few close friends who'd watch my back. God only knows what they do with a capture man.

Sorry to say I agree with MissJackson about the Prisoners thing, if they are in there then you have to say survival comes first. Walk by each cell say a prayer and shoot them in the head. But I also have to say No Mans(/womens) an island, you would have to gather a few freinds and family and try and survive with them. Even if you are in fort knox you still need to post night duty, guards and need a variety of skills to survive and you have more hope of accomplishing this with a number of people. Ideally I would have a medic/doctor/nurse, architect, survival specialist (ex army/ranger etc..), comms (IT, electrical etc...), logistics expert(accountant or other such professional) and someone with green fingures and has some idea of herbiology. not asking for much huh.. Also would be ideal to have a good male/female ratios from a variety of different cultures to keep the gene pool good.

Against my better judgement, I shall allow myself to be drawn into the argument. Just to play devil's advocate. What if. . .some of those prisoners, that you would pray for before you pop (kinda hypocritical), had those skills for which you seek. Say, a doctor and a botonist. What then? Still gonna kill 'em? Just curious. Sounds pretty mercenary to me.

Okay how can I trust that a prisoner is being honest about what he's locked up for or what his profession is? Its apparent they can't follow the rules of society or else they wouldn't be locked up... but you make a good point clangee you need certain professionals to align yourself with... however the problem with that way of thinking is very simple... once they become an asset to your community they may try to abuse that power... think Steve from Dawn 04...

I live my life much like if zombies already walk... I learn what I need to survive and never stop... when I worked for my dad at his medical office I read near every patient chart and asked a bagillion questions which of course came in handy when I raided his medical cabinets... I'm an avid do-it-myselfer as far as home construction, repair, whatever... i'm in the process of learning how to repair cars... I've taken CPR courses, I'm an avid gardener and I make some sweet wine too... all of this of course I learned and continue to learn because hey... I love to sail and want to sail to my private island and turn it into my sanctuary... being alone in the middle of the Pacific requires some skills and before I actaully go any long distance I shall acquire what I need... its for the above reasons that I simply dont feel the need for a large pool of people to serve a purpose in my society... i'd rather have underlings who have no special talent that way i'm the one who's needed most...

I would like to have my boyfriend and his family with me though... they're floggin awesome they're so nice and uncorrupted... and his friends maybe... I'd take about two of my pals... and there ya have it...

You kinda have to be mercenary in a zombie world... I mean eventually you may have to kill everyone you love and care about in the instant they turn... besides knocking off a few criminals would make for target practice... (i'm being entirely facetious with that)

Nah not hypocritical, not praying for them, praying for myself I would rather not be in a position where I have to pass judgement. Somtimes the intention is differing from the perspective viewers standpoint. From the true Karmic view (not the My name is Earl) it is not the act that matters but the intention just read Mahabharat. And as far as I am concerned they are in prison and even though they may have the skills that I might need to aid group survival, they are also more likley (considering where they are) to hinder the survival of the group.

And what happens when right when you decide to shoot one of the prisoners (after you pray for him, of course) and he grabs the gun form you and trains it on you. Or better yet, shoots you. Is he still the bad guy? obviously if you're going around indescriminantly killing folks, then you should be locked up right next to him.

Obviously you were not reading my post rather having a knee jerk reaction :skull:

I was not praying for him/her on my previous post, I was praying for myself for having to make such a decision.
Also he is unlikely to be able to grab the gun from me, he is in a cell I would not be unless if he comes across as streach armstrong. actully if you look at it in all fairness then I cant let him/her out incase he does grab the gun from me and decides his survival does not rely on my living, or attempts to attack one of my group.

So I can either just let him/her rot in there and die of starvation or I can shoot him/her and put them out of there misery. In this case as I am not allowing him/her out to protect my safty (survival and all that) I could do the cruel thing and let him rot there.

Tell me which is crueler??

is there such a word hmmm...

dmbfanintn

I dont know if you can label one as being any more cruel (more cruel, not crueler) than the other, It makes you a murderer either way.

Its funny to hear someone talk about "knee-jerk" reactions in a conversation about indescriminate killing of another, simply because they happen to be in jail. I would consider that the ultimate knee-jerk reaction.

Not the way to win friends and influence people. Seriously though, just leave off the praying bit. If you are willingly committing murder, there's no point in praying about it. If you believe in hell, you've got a ticket. Might as well spend the rest of your days kicking puppies and drowning babies.:dead:

If I stumbled upon a prison I would have killed all prisoners immediately, I would kill anyone wearing a guard uniform too just to make sure. I don't care about there being safety in numbers. I rather be dead than having to suck up to a bunch of thugs.
If one of them had a skill that a skill that I would be absolutely dependent on I guess I could keep one, but that guy would be under guard.

SRP76
19-Sep-2007, 10:45 PM
He couldn't be kept under guard; you already killed all the guards. You're alone.:p

Really, no live person would go to a prison, anyway. There is nothing there for us. So, the only way we'd find ourselves in a prison, would be if we ourselves were the prisoners.

At the start, it would be great. Totally safe: you have the exterior fences, the exterior walls, then the locked entrance to the main building, then the outer gate into the prison section, then the inner gate to the cellblocks...then the bars across your cell. NO deadhead is going to just randomly manage to shamble in and get you.

The only problem arises when you..um...starve to death.

However, if you are able to tunnel out through the back wall of your cell, you've got a chance. Remember, nobody is guarding you, so you don't have to sneak. So, you can dig with whatever you have, nonstop, without having to hide anything.

Then I would have to chain him down, lock him up or hobble him or something. All which would mean much work and stress for me. I would rather avoid that whole scenario, bad for the soul if you ask me.
