This was a responce in another thread but I figured it goes so far off the topic of the original thread that perhaps it needs to be its own topic....

well this was the post that inspired my responce

Sh!t, I tried to open the link and was bombarded with over 40 f#cking popups! :rockbrow:

Really!?....

I only got one popup...I use Microsoft IE (so concievably I should have gotten a ton)....but I have like the "security" levels on it set to the highest level...so only like the sites that I pre designate can give me cookies and all that type of crap.....
I used to accumulate malware, spyware, adware, worms ...and all the sorts of nasties that just always seem to build up over time....Until I got this one AWSOME program.....

Its called SpywareBlaster...it works with IE, Firefox, and Mozilla...update occasionaly and enable all protection.... Since Ive gotten this program I rarely rarely rarely rarely ever have to use Adaware or SpywareSearchandDestroy.....

And I hardly ever get popups EVER....Its an awsome program....I highly highly recommend it to everyone!......Its almost a shame its free because it provides such a great service they should be rewarded somehow....

You can get this program and other good applications from Downloads.com

Sidenote: I just updated SpywareBlaster I hadnt updated in months....after updating I did not get any popups from the link.....

I also have WinPatrol running(not necessarily recommended if your computer is on the slow "special needs" side of computers)....Its great for easy intuitive customization of windows startup procedures....so you can remove programs that you dont want preping during your reboot....so it speeds up startup a lot!....also its good for removing particularly nasty malicious software....Also it can be used to see "hidden" things running on your computer...like malicious stuff

ANYWAY....get Spywareblaster....

Also have you thought that you might have some malware on your computer already which gave you all those popups triggered by visiting that website.....If so get programs to remove them.....Adaware....Spyware Search and Destroy....AVG Free Edition....and if its particularly nasty get Hijackthis run the diagnostic and copy the report and post it in their forums and they will tell you which programs to "hijack".....Warning though....dont mess around with Hijackthis deleting things you dont know about ...you could really screw up your computer.......

Old people and the computer newbies constantly complain about their computers getting slow over time (worms)....and the ridiculous amounts of popups that they get....and the viruses.....and that very quickly their computers become completely unusable....

So these people foolishly buy dozens of expensive applications that address viruses, worms, and malware. For these people these applications are a requirement for computer usuage for them its factored into the cost of buying a computer.... When really these expensive applications arent even that great at doing what your paying them for.....They are more bloated programs, require more resources, and generally much less effective than using a handfull of FREE applications....

But these people will still pay for computer installation....tech support....and malware control...because they just dont know..... *sigh*.....
