I don't know how many people have seen the Killer, but to me that and Hard Boiled represent John Woo at his best before he came to America and made Mission: Impossible 2. Broken Arrow and Face/Off were fun to watch, but his work with Chow Yun Fat was really his best.

My thoughts on this are simple. Do you think it would be easier to just release a really great dvd of the original like they did with Hard Boiled or Jackie Chan's Police Story movies rather than make a whole new movie that tries to be "hip" with American pop culture. Sure there's a chance it could end up being good like the Departed, but first I'd rather not have to pay $40 or more just to get the original on dvd since every edition was discontinued shortly after release.

40 bucks? For a DVD?

It's because it was discontinued. Before Dawn was widely released on DVD a few years back, I paid over $50 to get one of the original discontinued dvds.

It was worth it until I found out about a month after it arriving in the mail that the new dvd was on it's way:|...

I remember renting The Killer on LD many years ago, it was subtitled in Korean and the spoken language was Chinese, no English in the movie and it still kicked a$$. I don't think I own it anymore but I will look into that. Great flick, it will be hard to beat Chow-Yun Fat in that movie.
