View Full Version : Pick a new Title for TRAPPED

While spending the whole weekend filming the thought of changing the films title has once again has crossed my mind. So I am going to put a list of titles up for a vote and let you, the members of homepage of the dead choose the title of my newest Living Dead film.
If you don't like the choice type in a name in reply, if I dig it I will give you a special thanks in the credits.
I am leaning towards: ASCENSION of the LIVING DEAD
if we go with DOMINATION of the LIVING DEAD...
The Movies title would start slowing fading in just saying "NATION of the LIVING" When it comes in to full view it would say "DOMINATION of the LIVING DEAD"
the Tagline would then be... "a Nation of the Living... DOMINATED by the DEAD"

Trapped is an awesome title already man, leave it be in my opinion.

I say keep it as "Trapped".
The "of the Living Dead" angle seems a bit...I duno...perhaps a tad obvious? I'm not sure.
I like the tagline idea for Domination, but again I'm not sure, Domination to me would suggest a massive ruck, like huge scale goings on...like "300", but with zombies.
Also there is an indie zombie flick already called "Siege of the Dead", so...
And "Rise of the Living Dead", to me at least, sounds close to "Return of the Living Dead"...
Maybe I'm being picky, I duno, but I think "Trapped" is the most suitable.
Or maybe riff on "Trapped" with a zombie inflection, like...
"Trapped By The Dead" (or maybe "Trapped With The (Un)Dead")

WTF?! Dude, put down the crack pipe!
KEEP IT TRAPPED! :p

Also, the "of the Living Dead" thing is also done...a lot.
The other words like "Rise" and "Ascension" and "Domination" all suggest something huge, whereas I think "Trapped" (or indeed my riff on it, or even "Trapped By Death"...something like that) suits what will be on screen better methinks.

Ok Gentlemen,
I see your POV, however, UNTITLED ZOMBIE PROJECT is not finished filming yet and you are only seeing one side of the equation. Wait until I do the 5 days worth of insert shots that need to be done and if I get the $$$$ my second cop ambush sequence.
I will let you three see the film before anyone else then tell me one of my newer suggested titles doesn't fit better.
The title and story may look small, but the scope of UNTITLED ZOMBIE PROJECT, is far from it. :D
Remember I see things in a very EPIC way.

UNTITLED ZOMBIE PROJECT?! :finger:
It revolves mostly around what? People "trapped" in a theater! :p
Or, we could always take Dave Cooperman's suggestion and call it "Matinee Buffet"  :D
KEEP IT TRAPPED, DAMMIT!
MinionZombie

True enough Dj, wise words indeed. From what I personally know of the film at least, "Trapped" makes most sense.
I guess it has to be what is best for the bulk of the content on screen, and what the title immediately might suggest to people, the last thing you'd want is a title that sells the film differently than it is...whether we like it or not, I guess there are 'book cover deciders' out there...
Hmmm...
Well I certainly look forward to seeing "Untitled Zombie Project" anyway! :)

dude, just keep it as trapped as any film with "living dead" in the title in the last 20 years hasnt exactly been well recieved, plus like lou says, its about people trapped, it does what it says on the tin and you get more props for makeing a zombie film that doesnt have dead in the title.;)

i notice youve voted yourself for domination of the dead. my view on that is:
1- "of the dead" may make people think your trying to associate the film with romero and have it ride on that.
2- shouldnt it be domniation BY the dead, domination OF the dead means someone else is dominating the zombies..... which brings up images in my head i never wanted to see.

Indeed, there are movies out there already named Trapped, Acension and Besieged. That said, there was a computer game titled Deadlands too. :D

I can throw some wannabe titles out there. May not be what you're looking for, but it's fun for me.
So:
"Dinner and a Movie" (no, not really. Ignore that one.:p)
To a Theater Near You
From the Inside
The End
Held Over
Quarter to Nine
Exit
Risk
Sanctuary
Getting Out
Lords of Nowhere
The Moat
Freedom of Despair
Walls
Captives
The Zoo
2 Miles
......those have popped into my head. See what you think.

Lou and I were coming up with titles last night, but we were more or less goofing on other titles.
"Zombie Movie Matinee"
"Just another zombie movie with 6 people stuck in a theater with no real chance of survival, but you will spend the $14.00 to find out anyway whether they live or die, or if this movie sucks or rules."
"Zombies Surround A Building"
"People hide from Zombies"
"Just another Zombie Movie"
"From the guy who brought you Deadlands: The Rising comes a film much better than Deadlands: The Rising"
We went on for an hour like this... but...
Ascension was my first choice when I started thinking new titles. Trapped pretty much fits the story of the movie to an extent, but the fact a slew of films are named Trapped makes it an issue for me, not too mention the fact the film looks a lot bigger in scope than the title would suggest.
Most people figured I would film it in a very claustrophobic style, but I didn't. I kept saying to my DP.. "They may be stuck here, but I don't want it to feel like the walls are closing in on them too much, they need a bit of room to breathe."
After shooting with Jim Krut and the rest of the government based cast, I sat there dumping the footage into my PC for editing, and while cutting some of it I said to myself "Trapped isn't going to work as a title". If the movie was just about the people stuck in the theater Trapped would work, but since I show the origins of how it all starts I figured the title needed to be changed.
I spent 3 hours seraching the Thesaurus and dictionary for ways to use words like RISE, RISING, RETURN, FALL, in a horror movie title.
The reason I keep going back to DOMINATION of the LIVING DEAD, is because when the title appeared on screen in the new teaser I made as is slowly fills the screen it starts by saying "NATION of the LIVING" then once the last zombie footage passes by it speeds up to say DOMINATION of the LIVING DEAD.
I will concede that the "of the Living Dead" does sound a bit tiring, but it isn't easy to find titles for zombie films.
Some of the other titles Lou and I did talk about on a more serious note were.
Deadlands 2: Resurrection
Deadlands 2: Trapped
plain old "Ascension"
I remember when Lou got excited on one title... Deadlands: The Ascension
I sort of killed that momentum because it is just another way of saying Deadlands: The Rising.
The way I figure it is I will get a new name for the film before I release and if nothing tickles my fancy by the time the film is finished I will toss a coin and one side will be TRAPPED :dead: and the other side will either be ASCENSION: The Rise of the Dead, or something else that fits closely to how the story works.

Hellsing saying the "of"/"by" thing in connection with Domination did make me think...
Or how about "Dead Domination" - Dead Nation becomes Dead Domination...I duno, something along those lines, it avoids the "of the living" thing.
Ultimately, a title just has to kick ass and be memorable and get across the right vibe which most suits what is actually on screen...*scratches chin*...hmmmm..
DjfunkmasterG
13-Nov-2007, 12:37 PM
That what I feel too MZ, but although TRAPPED gets the point across, it doesn't have that punchy vibe.

I say we go with:
DEADLANDS 2: YOU FU*KING NAME IT
with all this confusion around the title, "Matinee Buffet" is starting to sound good now...
How about
Deadlands 2: FEATURE PRESENTATION
Trapped still does fit. The center of the story revolves around the theater. I still dig "Ascension" but like you said, that's just another way of saying "rising" so I dunno.. I really do like that word though. Ascension.
It does have a ring to it.

It's not that it's leaning 'twards "deadlands 2: something-or-other" but, the idea hasn't been completely discounted, either.
Don't worry MZ, I'm confused too.
The one thing that's really cool is Dj has a great tagline for the movie - but it's just.. the title has to fit the movie and go along with that tag line.
*brain explodes from thinking too hard*
bah, I'll keep working on it..

That would be funny.. actually, think about this: a compilation DVD of a bunch of zombie short parody films, all based on other movies.
We would start with:
A Fistful of Brains - showing 2 zombies having a gunfight and them having issues even operating a gun - one dressed up exactly like Clint Eastwood.
then segue into
Live Free or Die Zombified - "Not sh*t lady, does it sound like I'm ordering brains!?" or "SEND... MORE... COPS..."
then into
Beverly Hills Zombie
 this is a idea in the making!
