here are mine:

zombies (duh) - both the romero type and traditional voodoo zombies.

gorgons- love anything to do with them. the hammer movie the gorgon is my second favorite movie ever.

wendigos-an awesome north american monster.

vampires-the folkloric type. not these poncy goth bastards dressed in black.

trolls/ogres-grendel representing.

the laistrygonians-ancient vampire types from the odyssey

dragons-even though hellsing had to go and burst my bubble about their existence:D

rakshasa- one from india

golems- a great old and underused classic.

bunyip-an australian aboriginal monster that haunts water sources.

buggane- an ogre like creature from the isle of man.

dullahan- an irish headless horseman that uses a human spine for a whip

hecate- the greek goddess of sorcery.

I don't know why, but I've always been a fan of anything related to cryptzoology if that counts.

Nessie, Bigfoot, Kraken, Thunderbird, etc.

The Bunyip!!! I love that thing.

Anyway, I have liked these:

Yeti, Bigfoot, Abominal Snowman or whatever its local name is.
Dragons
Kobolds
Brownies
Shadow People (they scare me lol)
Cerberus
Chimera
and the Phoenix

Actually I read a story in Neil Gaiman's Fragile Things called Sunbird which was awesome... I recommend it.. hell I recommend anything by Gaiman. He is awesome.

I collect monster books and like so many, but one favorite I have is the humble skeleton as a symbol of death is it one of the most scary.

The bramhaparush (i think thats how its spelled.) its a hindu sort of vampire that does a dance in its victims entrails.

also, looking at the rather impressive list of monsters, boogeymen and spiritual deviants forming, has anyone ever thought of the sort of genetic/physical/psychological disorders and anomalies that created some of these creatures. you know, like the unicorn that actually turns out to the the rhinocerous.

Sam Kennison did, he said that Jesus was the first guy to rise from the dead and not scare the f___ out of everyone. But remember, they didn't recognize him at first, I always imagined after what he went through he looked like five miles of bad road anyway.

1.) Lycanthropes (An American Werewolf in London types, 4 legged but not "actual" wolves.

2.) Vampires (Salem's Lot type, bestial and elemental)

3.) Zombies (Romero and voodoo types are fine, but Romero's are preferred)

4.) Giant insects and arachnids (these aren't mythical or folksy creatures, but they're still really cool)

Zombies o course hit in at number one

Immortals- highlander? I know its not mythological but I mean the undead and Dorian Grey. The sort of timeless creatures

Knockers- Essentially local gnomes that lived in the mines in my part of the world, lots of stories about them stealing children from the cots and miners leaving a sacrifice in the mines from their lunch everyday for the knockers. If someone failed to leave a sacrifice it was said the mine would be found caved in the next day. I just like local folklore

I used to have a real fixation on lycans the whole jekyll/hyde thing. I liked ginger snaps but hated underworld..
