New York Knicks forward Zach Randolph was suspended one game without pay for throwing his headband at an official, the NBA announced Friday.

Randolph was ejected with 1:47 left in the third quarter of the Knicks' 107-97 loss to the Sacramento Kings Wednesday. Referee Tony Brothers had called Randolph for a foul, and Randolph pulled off his headband and threw it at him.

Various accounts have the headband either hitting Brothers, or landing just short of his feet, but it wasn't Brothers who ejected Randolph. Another official, Mark Wunderlich, was the one who saw the violation and ejected the forward.

On Friday morning, after the Knicks' shootaround, Randolph told Newsday he was just frustrated. When asked what had him frustrated, Randolph replied, "Everything. The way it was going, frustrating fouls. Losing."

Randolph will serve his suspension Friday night when the Knicks face the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center.

The league has had a no tolerance policy for a couple of years now when it comes to stuff like arguing fouls and showing up officials. I find it difficult to feel sorry for pampered, millionaire players who whine after fouls they obviously committed. Maybe they'd have a little more credibility with the refs if they only argued when they have a legitimate beef. You have guys like tim duncan, rasheed wallace and dikembe mutombo who by their accounts have never committed a foul in their entire lives.

I'm having a hard time remembering a bigger sports franchise trainwreck than this years New York Knicks. On top of sexual harrassment charges and Marbury threatening to to leak dirt on Thomas, they're losing just about every game they've played.
Yesterday Thomas said most of this team is good enough to win a champioship!
WTF?

i think that the punishment was fair, as these guys (pro ball players, that is) are looked up to by kids, and this sort of thing doesn't really portray good conduct and professionalism on the court/field/whatever. what a baby.

don't see how these guys whine and bitch so much when they all make at least six figures, more like seven figures, each year.

shouldnt we be cracking down on refs if anything? they make six figures at least and STILL gamble on the game and blow calls, not to mention they kick players out of games for bull**** calls................ask tim duncan. i know you're gonna say "hey players gamble too",yea they do. and so does everyone else. but everyone else doesnt have the game in the palm of their hand like a ref does. further info on the story about duncan.... he was on the bench and got two techs for SITTING there.

also,im wiling to believe those grease monkeys are bought and paid for.

and after all that,i say **** most pro sports including basketball, baseball and hockey. why? they ****ing strike!!

in the words of an unforgetable movie

"we dont strike! we arent plumbers!!"

but everyone dumps on wrestling and they've NEVER struck and said "we already make more than the average american by far,so we want more money"

anyonee who dumps on someone who wrestles 300 nights a year can kiss my ass

I think you're right about the joey crawford/tim duncan incident. In that case the ref was clearly in the wrong and got his ass chewed off for it. The same thing happened in baseball with milton bradley from the padres this past season. The ump said something inappropriate to him and the dude just lost it. However, in too many cases the players are whining. I'll agree that officials don't always catch the foul or make the right call, but these guys are the best at what they do and get it right most of the time. On the otherhand you can't blame the players for trying to get away with a foul or a hold.

hell yea on all counts. crawford isnt the first. i dont know how many times over the years i've heard refs admit they blew calls that made the other team win the game.

and that ump baited milton bradley. heres a guy who basically turned off the pissed off part of himself to be a better player after that beer bottle incident with the dodgers, and then a moron ump says some dumb things to him and one torn ACL later, bradley was done for the season cuz of it

and believe you me, that's one of the main reasons the padres missed the playoffs.
