k, so basically, when i get home from work, i remove my shoes and presto, my nostrils are greeted by the indominable smell of eggs, wet socks, and old steak. i am in my shoes for 8.5 hours at a time as a minimum, they do not breath good at all, so nothing gets released until they are removed. i spray them down alot and it usually helps, but sometimes it won't.

my question to you is, what do you do to combat foot odour?

Wow....stange post, man.

I wear boots most of the day at work so I can understand. Odor Eaters have always helped my feet. They're just little pads that you put in the sole of your shoes/boots and they prevent them from smelling.

there was a doctor on oprah recently (my gf watches it occasionally, not me, so shut up already, will ya?) who recommended soaking your feet in freshly brewed tea...no joke. look it up on the web.

Everyday when I get home from work my girlfriend is either watching Oprah or Dr. Phil. God I hate that Dr. Phil guy. He doesn't deserve a penis.

honestly, some people's feet just have more bacteria than others. i'd try spraying my shoes with lysol or something when i get home and let em sit over night. i had a problem when i was 16 for about a week, then i sprayed lysol and i was fine. try more breathable shoes also

i'd recommend the chucks if not for my flat feet. a decent shoe with an arch should work. also NO CHEAP SHOES! theres some out there who wear the kmart/wal mart bargain basement shoes........dont do it,its public embarassment and physical harm to your feet. pony up the $80 for a good pair of shoes that'll last a long time.

I wear cheap shoes.

1. Wash your feet.

2. Wait until your feet are dry before putting on socks and shoes. Don't just jump out of the shower, towel off, and stick your soggy feet into your socks. Doing that gives the stink a huge headstart. Wetness = funk.

3. Take the shoes off the second you get in the door. No need to wear them in the house. The less your feet are in the shoes, the less chance of stink catching on.

4. When in doubt, dump the shoes in the washing machine. Wash and dry. An hour and a half, and they're good as new.

That will work fine if you have normal feet. If you have all kinds of defects with the feet themselves (open sores, blisters, rashes, boils, general torn-up feet), you'll have to take more intense measures.

I used to have a pair of shoes that I loved, but when I took them off the distinct smell of old buttered popcorn emenated from them. Strange I know, but man I loved those shoes. Had to put them down tho. Can't have butter-feet.

I hate that Dr. Phil guy.

Me too. For a trained therapist he seems really opinionated and close-minded.

I wear cheap shoes.

Me too. I wear cheap high heels, which is probably even worse for your feet (did a 4 hour shoot in 5" heels recently and could barely walk the next day because my calf muscles were so compressed). But if the choice is between paying £20 in New Look or £650 at Jimmy Choo's for a fairly similar looking pair, I know which I'm going to go for! My shoes get the crap kicked out of them so I need to replace them on a regular basis anyway.

Seriously? :rockbrow:

Anyhoo, my tips are:

1. As has already been said, wash your feet every day with a perfumed soap. Cut and clean under your toenails.

2. Wear cotton socks.

3. Take your shoes off as soon as you get home. Walking around without shoes on is good for your feet (and carpets!) anyway.

4. Use odour eaters and get a can of shoe deodoriser (I have one that makes my shoes smell like cherries  )

5. If your feet still seem to seriously stink whatever you do, see a doctor. You might have an infection or a sweat problem. If it's the latter, avoiding eating smelly foods like fish could help (or at least avoiding them if you think your feet are likely to be in company!).

it is really simple

they are all correct
you need different shoes

i had the same problem
id take a shower before work then
when i wore one pair my feet stunk
when i wore another pair they smelled the same as when i
got out of the shower

get new shoes
and buy a can of athletes foot spray too
in case those shoes caused a fungus

it should end you problem immediately

thanks for the vivid description too
really needed all those details

thanks alot guys, the help is appreciated
now that i think about it
I can detect the scent of popcorn
when i remove my shoes from a long nights work
We have foot spray around here somewhere
but i am unable to pinpoint it's location

How do you wash shoes? do you need to take the laces out and just chuck em in the washer by themselves with loads of soap?
I used to just run a hot bath and soak them in the water while using soap bars to scrub down the inside of the shoes.

I concur with everyone else on how to maintain your feet. Heavy bacteria growth causes not only bad odor, but Athlete's foot as well. Once shoes become infected with Tinea Pedis (Athlete's Foot) you have to throw them away as the bacteria will live breed in there forever.

Cheap shoes... stay away from them. Even if your budget is tight save money for a good pair. Cheaply made shoes use poor materials which contribute to foot odor, but in addition have long lasting effects that can mess your feet up for years to come. One of the biggest problem from cheap shoes is Plantar Faciitis (It is the ligament at the bottom of your foot which tears. You know you have it is when you step out of bed in the morning and your heel or bottom of your foot is rife with pain. Only surgery can correct the most sever cases.)

Also when buying new shoes look for shoes that breath and absorb moisture. TImberland work boots do this very effectively. Their saftey shoe in Hiker Style is highly recommended, but pricey ($125 and up)

another thing is buy good 100% cotton socks, Nike makes a dri sock that absorbs moisture. You can also use baking Soda, just poor it in your shoe to eat the odor, but odor eaters are the best.

if u put shoes in the washer,u might as well go barefoot. it takes the shape and the integrity out of the shoe. so if it had a "good arch" before, it wont have jack after a washing. just clean the things

When all else fails...

Wash your feet? A little soap and water goes a long way.

Odor eaters or talcum powder, or if its exceptionally strong use both. You should be ok.

Yeah Chic has the makings of a true Dom.
So proud of her....
She just for got the part of having them thank her

and Mo there is always the option
of removing both your feet with a power tool
and putting pegs on and getting a parrot
and finding a new career as a pirate.

maybe you could work for Capt Morgans Rum
everybody likes that stuff.

"Feet? We don' need no steekin' feet"

Frank Zappa says in the song "Stink foot"

Now scientists call this disease bromidrosis
(thats right!)
And well they should
Even napoleon knows that
But us regular folks
Who might wear a tennis shoe
Or an occasional python boot
Know this exquisite little inconvenience by the name of:
Stink foot

Yknow, my python boot is too tight
I couldnt get it off last night
A week went by, an now its july
I finally got it off
An my girl-friend cry
You got stink foot! stink foot, darlin
Your stink foot puts a hurt on my nose!
Stink foot! stink foot! I aint lyin,
Can you rinse it off, dyou suppose?

Yup, get rid of them shoes Mo. I got a buddy who's feet stank so much I had to kick him out of my house, and he hadn't even taken his shoes off! The moment he brought new trainers I couldn't smell a thing...

...until a month later when he stank those f**kers out too. :barf:
