since the original thread was hijacked, i feel obligated to restart this thread since a lot of folks were responding and the trouble was only caused by one person.

here is the original article-

There's got to be something more going on here. If it were just an isolated attack, I could see it happening: a group of guys are hanging out, they want to cause trouble to get a thrill....next thing you know, we have this sorry situation.

But, it's not. The article says these attacks are going on all over the place, on the average of about 4 a day!

That can't just be a coincidence. Not every jackass wakes up in the morning and says, "I think I'll attack a firefighter today".

Not that I'm a conspiracy nut or anything, but come on....I don't see a way to have 1,500 "isolated incidents".

Hey, are the laws for attacking or murdering a firefighter the same as a cop in the U.K.? Over here, its the same along with along any medical crew on the scene.

Does this have to do with the banning of the bonfires for Guy Faulkes day? The article makes it seem quite a bit more expansive than that. In any case, it's just craziness. :stunned:

simple solution, give the fire patrols shotguns and rubber bullets.

technically they're not really armed. but a rubber bullet will knock the tar out of any brick wielding miscreants. at least until the local police start providing escorts for the FP's.

I really have no explanation for why people are doing this. The only thing I can think of is that setting up a successful "ambush" by setting a fire and then beating up the firefighters when they come to put it out makes a certain kind of person feel big. Scary stuff.

could this be tied into the recent popularity of slapping/assaulting total strangers as they walk by? is this the gonzo version of that particular game?

standard pedestrians are no longer interesting or entertaining enough so now the mini-einsteins and newtons that engage in this sort of behavior are going after "more interesting" targets.

If some someone ever slapped me for fun while their loser friends recorded it. Then I would give them something worth while to record. While they watch me beat the crap out of their friend.

Its happened a few times round here, chavs setting fire to bins then attacking the fire crews when they turn out,its obviously some kind of notorious game thats caught on around the country among those kind of people
I think the fire crews should be allowed to turn the fire hose on them,it would knock them on their arses & they wouldnt hang about long if they were drenched on a cold night!it is disgusting though & it will only get worse the longer all these lily livered social workers & lawyers are running the country

You know what Logan said about making them behave. They aren't buying the some reward to come part. That part of dialog and the radio show sampled in Fripp and Eno's Healthy Colours made me figure out what the Bush/Neocon administration is doing in Iraq. The citizens under a dictatorship are not as happy as those in any democracy says the host, so things like islam-insanity fill the void instead of consumerism and they attack the US slave herds. They want to make the desert peoples behave. Good luck with that. :skull:

The people doing this have devolved, thanks to junk food media and absence of reading and thinking, to the point where they function on base emotion and thrill alone.

:dead:Exterminate the stupid:dead:

Damn straight, if I was a firefighter under attack I'd hose those bastards down with glee.

And then if anybody tried to do the usual 'victimise the victim' like always seems to happen here in the UK, get it splashed all over the newspapers and the case will be dropped like a lead weight as the entire country backs you up.

I don't understand why the fire and rescue are not
sent out with a police escort like they are here.

seems like it would solve this problem and
probably others not mentioned.

and I would comment on your post triste, but
you lost me when you mentioned Robert Fripp
and Brian Eno and neo cons in a post about fire fighters.
