happened this date in history.

my american brethren today is the day that stephen decatur struck the first of a series of fatal blows against the barbary pirates by recapturing the frigate philadelphia in tripoli harbor (it had run aground).

and it is also the day that howard carter unsealed tutankhamun's burial chamber and gave his famous reply to the question "do you see anything?"

carter's reply: "yes, wonderful things."

People in the Middle East pass boegey man stories about the wrath of the US Marines to this day from when we took back the frigate then proceeded to chase them on foot across northern africa for 1000 Kilometers or so. And it all happened in 1805!!

I.E. the United States Marines are badarses!!!
