It averaged $5,000 per theater which is good, I think if it rolled out wider and had some advertising it would have done probably $3-$4 million on 500 screens.

So this is good....but does it mean that they may release it on more screens? I wasn't able to see it this past weekend because it was too far and storming...

Thats like what, 6,000 a theater or something like that? Its reasonable for a small release with next to no advertising. I would really doubt it would get a much wider release though, even though I agree if it was on several hundred screens I think it could do a million or more.

I believe it was right around $4 million US. Not a lot but it will recoup its budget I think if they A) release it on more screens &/or B) release a really good edition of the dvd

according to George during on of the many panel interviews, Diary already made its budget back just on international theatrical distribution sales. It looks like it was very profitable for Artfire films.

then the big question, and i'm sure this is on everyone's mind and would like to know the answer "why aren't the Weinsteins doing anything with this film?" If they liked it so much to buy the rights, why sit on it and only give so many cities a taste of what the film has to offer

Because the Weinsteins have been f*cking things up recently. Grindhouse, anyone?

I have no proof or anything, but I definitely wouldn't count on it if I were you. If you can't catch it in theater, I would say that now your best bet is DVD...

Just notice on Box Office Mojo that Diary is till doing ok for a limited release film. On 47 screens it hauled in another $53,000.00 for a per theater average of $1142 per theater, which is still enough for most theaters to keep a film like this running. Once you dip belwo $750 a weekend for a film you a certain to end up on death row.

Total gross so far is $679,000, so it may break $700K

I'm surprised it even made that much with no advertisement here in the U.S. and all.

If they expand it to more theaters, they might risk losing alot of money. The film has made a profit NOW, but what if they market it and it turns out to be a disaster? They're probably playing it safe. It's a business, after all.
