The Goonies and Stand By Me

Tried looking for this on the Internet, but can’t seem to find any references to it. I was watching “Stand By Me” for the first time in years last night and I noticed a number of similarities between “Stand By Me” and “The Goonies” (a film I know much better).

I’ve found a site that compares the two films, characters and plot wise, but it doesn’t mention the fact that some of the dialogue is roughly the same. The example I noted the most was the vomiting story that is told by Chunk in the Goonies and is also told by a character in Stand By Me.

    Anyone know anything about this?

In the Goonies, Chunk says he filled up a bag with a substance that looked like vomit and brought it to the theatre then dumped it on everyone from the balcony.

In Stand By Me, Gordy tells a story about a really fat guy ("Lardass") that eats raw egg and vinegar before entering a pie-eating contest so that he can deliberately puke on everyone.

The only similiarity there is the fact that people get puked (or puke-like substance) on and start vomiting all over each other. I don't think it was intentional.

Maybe the characters are slightly alike, but I don't see too much of a good likeness.

The plots are different two... one group is looking for treasure; the other group is looking for a dead body.

I don't really think they're alike other than the fact that they both have groups of kids being trailed by older "bad guys" whilst trying to find something.

Two of my all-time favorites, though.

well, one was based on a Stephen King novella and the other wasn't

    Whew....
I remember TRYING to sit through this when it was released to the theaters. As a matter of fact, it may have been the first flick I ever walked out on.
