There are dozens of easter eggs in L4D2 so I thought it would be fun to make up a little list for reference. If you encounter any that are not on the list, feel free to add them.
Most of these were taken from the L4D2 site.
Dead Center:
- In the first hotel room is a poster of a Boomer.
- On the CEDA truck, it reads Disease Emergency Assessment Dispatch, which, if abbreviated, spells DEAD.
- The title of the grocery store is 'Save 4 Less', an obvious nod to the title of the series.
- Various products scattered throught the level, such as cups and burger boxes, have characters from Team Fortress 2 printed on them.
- If any character purposely attacks one of the dummies in the mall, they will chuckle.
- A zombiefied Jimmy Gibbs Jr. spawns on rare occasions in the finale.
Dark Carnival:
- Gnome Chompski makes an appearance in Half Life 2 also, with a similar achievement gained for carrying him during a portion of the game.
- Approach the microphone as Coach or Ellis in the concert finale and they will sing into it.
Swamp Fever:
- A Charger can be seen strung up in the first chapter, taking the shape of the 'Lambda' logo.
Hard Rain:
- In the Safehouse where you collect the fuel, there's graffiti on the wall written by Chet and Erik. Chet Faliszek and Erik Wolpaw are writers at Valve.
- In the same safehouse is a message on the wall which reads: "We are going to the city. Grab Louis and meet us there." A reference to Louis from L4D1 and his catchphrase, "grabbin' pills!"
The Parish:
- The Jukebox in the bar plays music by Jonathon Coulton and the Midnight Riders. When Coulton's song Re: Your Brains reaches it's chorus, a horde is summoned.
-The bus stop signs have 'PWN' on them.
Characters:
- The symbol on Nick's ring is one of Francis' tattoos from L4D1.
- Tanks use the same animation as Dog from Half Life 2.
- The dead female from the first level of L4D1's No Mercy, makes appearances throughout the game.
Oh, and here's a photograph of the real Coach and Ellis.
