Judging from the pic (pre 1960's?) that guy qualified as a musclebound freak in that era.

In some respects that's true. And REH was writing the early part of last century, so often he refers to men as huge and hulking and then we come to find out in a few instances they were like 6 feet or a shade over. Tall, but not to an excessive degree in modern terms.

Of course, if people want to say that Conan is meant to be a larger than life character with a larger than life physique and any modern day interpretation would be justified in ratcheting up the steroid level, I can't say their opinion is wrong. I do however disagree that strong and powerful need to equal square shaped and so oafishly overbuilt as to make movement difficult. Conan was supposed to be possessed of a grace that belied his strength and impressive physique, built like a jungle cat. Simple as.

I've read a lot of REH, by the way

Ugh, I'd rather have a kickass Elric movie...

That could be epic if done properly. I thought I heard a rumor that there was a project in the works. Way early stages though.

You know, I'd even be happy with a really good ADULT animated movie. Put it in 3D like Beowulf, I'd go.
I'll believe in a movie when I finally see it. Somewhere I saw a clip from what they said was an Elric movie already done in the past, and it looked terrible. I can't find it now.
I used to love playing the role playing game back in the day. If they make a trilogy like I read, it better be epic. Or else!!!

Well, I know someone tried to make an animated version of it in the 80s, but couldn't pull it off. She ended up writing a book about the project.

By Chaosium? I've never tried it, which makes it one of the few Chaosium RPG lines, I have yet to try out.

I still break out the only manual I have left: Sorceror's of Pan Tang, which I thumb through on the toilet often enough. Lots of kickass art in there and they go into greater depth about the gods. I wish people still played AD&D, instead of stupid XBOX. Fun times...
I guess rolling some dice, and a few doobies to help stir the imagination, is too much for these kids today.

He's definitely beefed up, but as I had assumed he won't appear to be a freak of nature like Arnold.

At least they're getting some use out of all the leftover props and costumes from Legend of the Seeker...
    Those aren't real problems, Sam.

Looks interesting and pretty, but this 'Conan' just doesn't appear to be the force-of-nature Arnold was!

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Um... Okay... Saw the trailer for it in the theater. Looks like... Well, a typical modern fantasy actioner. Not impressed, but surprised.
We still need a Xena movie, dammit! Where the hell are the hot, kick-ass chicks?! And as the main protagonist, I mean!
