    Mommy or daddy issues? Check.
    Desperately seeking approval? Check.
Peforming in front of others for money? Check.
Morals discarded in scramble for fame and fortune? Check.

I see a pattern forming here...

That's the short list. I could have kept going, but I think you got the point.

I can't answer this as a 'yes' or 'no' type thing. It really depends on the situation.

If it's for a shitty short film I'm making, then hell no, she's not making out with anyone but ME.

If it's for a big(ger) movie and she's getting paid a decent amount, I'd be okay with it.

I'm also realizing I sound like I pimp my girlfriend out...

Most of those points could be applied to a lot of jobs, particuarly jobs in Customer Service

The main, devastating difference is that a stripper is performing specifically to induce sexual interest from his or her audience, whereas an actor seeks to portray a character convincingly.

I don't know that you could apply THOSE to most other jobs....and what kind of customer service are YOU receiving?!?

Oh, they're both portraying a character, and attempting to elicit a response via a convincing performance...it's just the type of performance & the response they're attempting to elicit differs...

(And lest we got any further, I don't have any agenda here...I just took Bass' off the cuff comment & ran with it. All comparisons made are purely for the purposes of humor & I have never known any strippers. Or actresses. Or strippers who wanted to be actresses. )

    Welll...

Desperately seeking approval? Not so much approval, but Sales Advisors are often desperate to seek a positive outcome from their customers (i.e. bonus/meeting sales target/avoiding being fired)

Performing in front of others for money?
You have to put on a happy, cheery, personable, professional attitude even when you hate your job and the customers you serve.

Morals discarded in scramble for fame and fortune? Morals discarded in scramble to meet sales targets.

Dress up in costumes & pretend to be someone else? Wearing a stupid uniform.

Pretend they love you, but it's really just an act? Pretend to care whether or not the customer "has a nice day", when in reality all you care about is how soon you can find another job.

Have to make sure they hit their mark & have well rehearsed moves? Ever had to follow a sales script?

The more convincing their performance the better they get paid? Thankfully I've never had to to do a job where it's been entirely commission-based, but a lot of folks do.

Appear warm & open while performing, but can become nervous, distant, or even hostile if approached by their fans in public? When I worked at Blockbuster I used to have people recognise me on my lunch breaks (thanks to my uniform) and try to hand me their DVD returns right there in the street. Needless to say I did not provide them particularly professional service on those occasions

Mommy or daddy issues? Okay, you got me on this one.

Seems like you're stretching some of those a bit more to fit the analogy. But it's all good. I'm not really going to put too much effort in defending why the chicken crossed the road.
