I believe this is supposed to be the dawn of a new day breaking hence the title of the movie.

The blooper here really is a blooper - it's not the intentional shift from dawn to day - if you watch the scene closely, it's light outside when Peter gets in the heli, when he's inside the chopper, it's dark outside (look through the windows) - we see the shot of the chopper viewing the zombies from below, and it's light outside. Then back to the chopper and Peter say's "alright" and it's dark outside (again look through the windows).

something to that effect anyway, there is definitely chopping between dark and light.
