George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead Live

    http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/168001

On October 1st, 1968, a little independent monster flick called, “Night of the Living Dead” premiered in the steel town of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Produced for a mere $114,000, the film went on to gross more than, $250,000,000 worldwide. It has been translated into 25 different languages and has been playing on the big screen consistently since 1968. Even four decades after it’s release, the movie is still revered as a cult classic, and holds a 96% “Certified Fresh” rating on the popular Internet film review site ROTTEN TOMATOES. Needless to say, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is undoubtedly the most popular and successful horror film of all time.

Now, 45 years later, Nictophobia Films is bringing this cinematic masterpiece to the stage in spring 2013 like you have never seen before. Just like the film, the stage production will be presented entirely in black and white, from the set design right to the actors. The performance will be audience interactive as live zombies walk through the aisles, making their way to the to the stage keeping spectators on the edge of their seats. Measures have been taken to maintain a PG rating so that a younger audience can also experience this fun and amazing production.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD LIVE will captivate audiences as they experience this classic told in the intimate setting of a live theater. This will bring the viewer closer to the story than ever before, as they are literally sitting in the house with the characters as they fight and kill their way through the marauding ghouls. At the end of the show everyone in the room will know what it feels like to experience a night with the living dead!
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. This could actually work, given the nature of NOTLD. It will all fall down to how good the actors are in presenting the paranoia and dread.
That 'measures have been taken to maintain an PG rating' sounds worrying though. Are the zombies going to eat crackers?

This sounds cool. I saw Re-Animator: The Musical at the Edinburgh Fringe this year and it was ace (my review here). That said, it does seem a strange choice to limit the content to a "PG" rating because there aren't many pre-teen kids for whom the NOtLD name will be a draw, the choice will only alienate fans, and in any case there is no such thing as an "official" rating for theatre; the Re-Animator show had a self-applied "no one under 13" policy, which meant teenagers could still get in while minimizing complaints from parents, but none of the gruesome or sexual elements were toned down. Part of the fun was getting sprayed with gore in the front rows. Anyway, this still sounds interesting. The black-and-white concept is cool!

That sounds awesome - both Re-Animator and NOTLD on the stage I mean.

Speaking of the former, you say it wasn't toned down - did they still have a severed head eating out a lady? (A scene that originally proved a bit too much for the BBFC once-upon-a-time).

Despite what the BBFC say, it doesn't quite go as far as cunnilingus in the uncut version of the movie. You see him kiss her naked body then he holds his severed head between her legs and begins to move forward with his mouth open, at which point Herbert West bursts in and interrupts him with a sardonic put-down about respected professors who tryst with college coeds. In the stage version it's basically the same except she's wearing a skimpy nightdress and Professor Hill rips her underwear off with his teeth (he doesn't have a spare hand, obviously).

The whole show is very close to the original film, with the exception of some very memorable musical numbers and the inclusion of Norm from cheers. It was actually adapted by the writing team from the movie, and directed by Stewart Gordon himself.

Not yet two thousand out of a needed fifty? Ouch.

Perhaps I've overlooked it, but will this be a travelling show?

Saw a preview of this show last night and it was just terrific. If you're a fan and you don't mind NOTLD with some laughs then you will enjoy.
