Bloodsport (film) remake - Frank Dux

I quite like Van Damme's original film about Frank Dux. Will be interesting what a modern production does with it. However seems the remake has nothing to do with Frank Dux, so one has to ask why is it a remake and not just another martial arts flick? Confused!

The original film was inspired by the life (or claims) of American martial artist Frank Dux, and focused on his quest to do his Ninjutsu master proud by winning the Kumite, a full-contact tournament that has been known to turn deadly. There is no mention of Dux or the Kumite in Relativity’s reboot.
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. I liked Van Damme's Bloodsport too. Not sure a remake is warranted, tho.

Why not remake Kickboxer? Out of ideas, Hollywood?

Yeah, the ponytail guy kicking the pillar before the match. Nobody is scarier than that guy.
    Plus Van Damme...
No need to remake it ever.

The original is a classic so-bad-it's-good 80s flick...it'll be hard for them to turn anything out appreciable.
