Wow. End of an era there. Wonder why he left. Must have been getting fed up with it. Shame, he's one of the few interviewers who tries to never let the bastards get away with shitty answers.

Must admit he was painfully opinionated though at times, seemingly just for the sake of it! When he interview Russell Brand he came across as a bit of a dick, given Russell's far more laid back and reasonable approach. Paxman can be a divisive sort of interviewer - sometimes he really gets it right, and other times he's just annoying. I think he's kind of also inspired, to some extent, a sense in other news anchors and interviewers that you have to indignantly demand an answer to a question and then - when they're only said three words - demand an answer to another question, and generally be rather impatient. If they spent less time interrupting and asking another question after having only just asked one, there might be some actual time for some answers. That sort of thing really does my head in - yeah, sure, when they talk utter bollocks or avoid the questions entirely then it's okay to barge in, but with all these anchors it just seems to be the default setting and there's no other way of doing it for them. They're all desperate to be 'the next Paxman' or to get some sort of scoop, as if they're more interested in their own reputations and fame rather than the issues they're discussing ... and that does my head in, too, so I rarely watch the news because the presentation and general lack of information/context/facts pisses me off to no end. Russell Brand - can't stand him pretty much ... occasionally he'll have something interesting to say or have something funny to say, but I think he gets way too much credit. He spouts out a thousand flowery words, but when you start breaking down what he's actually saying, he's talking rubbish/nonsense for the most part. He's also a bit of a hypocrite banging on about the rich when his pockets are extremely well-lined ... RB comes off as a bit shoved up his own arse a lot of the time. /rant

It could be argued that Paxman played him beautifully here. He's got him really riled up and addressing points that a lot of people wouldn't give Brand credit for even being aware of.
