Sonic and Mario hit the Olympics

SEGA® Corporation and Nintendo Co. Ltd. Has announced that Sonic and Mario are to appear together for the first time ever in the new Wii and Nintendo DS title Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Sonic made his first appearance on June 23, 1991 in order to provide SEGA with a mascot to rival Nintendo's flagship character Mario. And since that day both rivals have been two of the most successful game characters. In Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, players will compete in events that take place in environments based on the official venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The game will take advantage of Wii and Nintendo DS innovative control systems and it will feature characters from both Mario and Sonic worlds such as Luigi, Knuckles, Yoshi, Tails and others. “The Olympic Games represent the true spirit of competition and passion,” said Raymond Goldsmith, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ISM. “Bringing together intensely competitive and fun characters like Mario and Sonic in an Olympic setting helps showcase the sports of the Olympic Games in a new and compelling way for all generations.”

i was hoping sonic would be making an appearence in the next smash bro's, but this is all we're getting instead. Is still quite a landmark event, sonic and mario in the same game for the first time..

It sounds like fun to me, sonic has always been one of my faves and to have him up against Mario is like you said Andy a bit of a landmark Can't wait to have a go, bags being Sonic

i heard sonic ws replacing maste rhand if you played as mario on smash bros. brawl, im still holding out for that cus as fun as it is to see sonic and mario compete against each other, the olympics?, come on nintey, we need a cross between sonic adventure 2 and mario 64, that'd rock.
