Dolby Digital Remix from Standard Stereo Source

How many of you use Sony Vegas? For those that do I have learned a nice trick to remxing standard Stereo audio into 5.1 Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital EX Surround. Before you edit your project in Vegas choose new, set the video properties as you feel (I prefer 1.212 Widescreen which equals 1.85:1[2.35:1]) click the audio tab and set audio master to surround. Now every audio channel will have it's own 5.1 speaker diagram so you can configure each audio track to play in whatever speaker you want on the time line. Once you complete your edit render your movie as you normally would keeping the standard PCM Audio track. once the edit is complete go back and and re-render the project but change project type to Dolby Digital AC-3. When the dialog box opens choose Custom and then set the frequencies as you please, if you want DD EX enable "EXT BITSTREAM" then make your settings as desired. When making your DVD add an extra audio track then just insert your brand new remixed DD or DD EX audio track and voila.

I couldn't do anything with the video I shot of his truck in surround, but it's nice to know I can use Vegas to author audio in surround.. Now if only I could master it down to DTS. Yeah, yeah, I know you're a proponent of DD, but my ears like DTS better, so eat me. LC
