and now for a devil's advocate: whatever my personal feelings about brett are, this ban must stand. 1. the mods would very soon find themselves with zero credibility if bans can be overturned because the offender is "popular" with other members. 2. the policies and rules of the board must be enforced without regard to the popularity (or lack thereof) of a particular board member. 3. people don't get to set conditions for their return to the board. that is utter and complete bullshit. you either want to participate or you don't. period. let the ban stand. drama is for soap operas. I actually agree Mike, as said earlier I like Brett and think he's a sound bloke, but the ban should stay for the reasons you stated. Besides, does the capn actually want to come back? or would he rather stay away due to this fallout? If I was in a similar situation & I have been with another forum in the past, I'd just let it go & get on with my life

While I agree the whole list of conditions thing is overboard, from what little I can tell the ban was not in keeping with number 2 on your list, Mike. The ban seems like an extraordinary occurrence, as most banned members don't have their posts completely removed, and I tend to believe Brett when he says no official warnings were given in their usual manner. I agree there is very little that can be done, but people being annoyed by what is perceived as lopsided implementation of policy is a pretty natural repercussion. Long term members should at least be treated as fairly as short-term troublemakers when there's a problem and not shuffled off arbitrarily because of bad blood if policy & rules are to mean anything. Again, not that big of a deal, just explaining how I view the situation. It seems like Brett could be back if he wanted to be, so it is what it is. Anyway, who the fuck knows the full story anyway? Brett and Andy and they don't seem likely to agree on how/what/why things happened the way they have, so we're at an impasse, as we have been since the thing started.
