    Kodachrome
A Netflix movie that came out in 2018 (IIRC). Ed Harris plays a grumpy old photographer who's in his dying days, who ropes in his nurse (Elizabeth Olsen) and his estranged son (Jason Sudeikis) for a road trip to the last place in America that is processing the titular film - so that he can get four undeveloped rolls of film printed at long last. I really enjoyed this one. Solid performances all round, especially from Harris, and the respect for photography (as well as film over digital) really shines through.

As it’s still a recent release, NO spoilers, but I enjoyed it! I don’t think it’ll be a Tarantino classic that will get as many repeat viewings as some of his others, but it’s a fantastically fun ride through the entertainment industry and culture in the late 60’s. It kinda goes without saying that Tarantino takes some....”artistic liberties” with certain historical events.
It's a "hang out" kind of a movie. Rather than being plot driven, it's more story driven. That grated for me a little bit on the first viewing (the bit in between the first and last 30/40 minute chunks meanders an awful lot), however the movie really stuck in my head and I watched it again a couple of weeks later (a pretty fast repeat viewing for me), and I enjoyed it more on its own terms. I dug it the first time, but I was expecting more narrative oomph.

That makes sense. I have been thinking about the film a lot, I’ll have to give it another spin to see how it sits with me on round two. Hey, there’s plenty of time for repeat viewings right now!

I also really enjoyed Kodachrome! I’d like to see Sudeikis get some attention and more diverse roles, he’s an entertaining dude!

Did you see Colossal? Another more different role for Sudeikis, as opposed to the comedies.

I did! That’s another great example, he held his own quite well next to Hathaway.

    Extra Ordinary
This just came up on Netflix the other day (at least in the UK) - it's an Irish 'paranormal comedy' - featuring Will Forte in a supporting role. I wasn't sure about whether I'd add it to my queue or not when watching the trailer, but Will Forte pushed me over the top (I'm a big fan of MacGruber and The Last Man On Earth, and always enjoy Forte's work in general). I'm really glad I watched this movie as it's a lot of fun. It's not big broad comedy, it's subtler than that, so paying attention certainly helps to get the quieter jokes, but it's also quite silly (in a good way) at times. I don't want to say too much about it, because I rather enjoyed going into it almost completely cold (I hadn't been aware of it until a few days ago), and so the only thing I was going on was the brief trailer on Netflix + Will Forte. I highly recommend giving it a spin.

    Bad Boys For Life

From my experience, you either like the Bad Boys films or you hate them. There doesn’t seem to be much of a middle ground, really. I personally really enjoy them, particularly the bat-shit crazy Bad Boys 2. “For Life” doesn’t necessarily match that same level as the second film, but it’s a worthy addition and a welcome return of the two characters that we know quite well at this point. Thankfully, the actors allow for the passage of time to be referenced in a realistic way, acknowledging their aging, as well as becoming the “old guys” with their outdated police tactics.

Needless to say, there’s plenty of “ride together, die together”(Bad Boys was doing the “family” thing long before Fast and Furious!) and your expected amount of issues, but if you’re in for the fun ride, you’ll enjoy it.

They should have Sean Penn join Smith and Laurence in the next one.

    Sonic The Hedgehog

It’s a movie for kids, you should already know that going in, but it’s fun! It’s a cute adventure and teaches the kids some good lessons, with a handful of jokes for the parents. Jim Carrey as the villain, Doctor Robotnik. He’s....Jim Carrey, being Jim Carrey. James Marsden as the human protagonist, with Ben Schwartz(Parks and Rec’s Jean-Ralphio) voicing Sonic. It’s a goofy but entertaining video game movie, those are rare, just don’t expect more than it is: a kids movie.

I'm pretty there's an ancient prophecy saying that that would open the gates of hell, or something.

    Rocco
A documentary about the porn star Rocco Siffredi. I've heard the name, but that's about it, aside from hearing about this specific documentary on the Your Mom's House and 2 Bears 1 Cave podcasts. Tom Segura brings it up now and then, and with so many references to it I figured I'd check it out. Well ... it's an eye-opening documentary at various points, and not necessarily for the obvious reasons or in the obvious ways you might initially think of. Some of it is quite bizarre, other bits are quite emotional or tragic, and it's a pretty fascinating glimpse at the (very) unusual lives of the people featured in it.

    The Dirt
I'm not really a Motley Crue fan, although the songs of theirs that I have heard I have liked, so...

Anyway - it was entertaining enough, and kept me watching, but it's also a pretty jumbled film in terms of tone, presentation, and storytelling. The primary focus seems to be on the 'sex, drugs, and rock n roll' aspect of their story, although there are some darker moments throughout (e.g. drug addiction, parental abuse, terminal cancer etc). In terms of the presentation, it's all a bit scattered as you have the four band members all providing voice over as well as moments of 4th wall breaking commentary from multiple characters at random moments. It certainly lacks focus and struggles to really draw you in emotionally, and can sometimes feel in a bit of a rush to cover so many years of their lives (you wonder if a mini-series might have been better; it would certainly have provided much more room to let the various character stories breathe) ... but still, it was fun enough for a spin, and I never checked my watch or found it boring at any point.

I'll be interested in checking it out. I grew up playing Sonic, and the re-design they did on the character shat all over that garbage original design they put out in the first trailer. Who on earth thought that was a good idea?

I recently finished Happy! Season Two. Sadly, this will be the last season after having been canceled. Hopefully another network or streaming platform will pick it up, because it’s been the most gloriously dark comedy I’ve seen in ages. One of those shows that are amazing and even elevate the tv format, yet it gets cancelled before it can really find solid audience numbers. It’s a tough concept to sell, but the end results were phenomenal, imo. Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed it. There was a bit of filler content in both seasons, especially the first, but overall it was a damn good show that was really enjoyable and frequently surprising. So full of energy, and yeah, Meloni was superb in it.

I was wondering if Netflix might pick it up (it came to Netflix last year), although I've yet to hear anything about it getting picked up ... I'd really like it if it did, but I'm not particularly hopefully. So many great shows have been shitcanned way before their time.

Indeed, Meloni is a top notch actor that doesn’t necessarily get the attention he deserves. Great dramatic actor and his comedic performances are top notch. More of a cameo, but I regularly quote his hillbilly character from the first Harold and Kumar film.
