Agreed. By trying to stay close to the atmosphere of the LOTR trilogy a lot of what makes The Hobbit such a great children's story is completely lost.
The Spielberg style setpieces are so over the top that they left me yawning. The finale of that film and the whole barrels on the river action scenes felt like a videogame.
A damn shame no other director got to make his or her vision of the novel.

Aye. The only one in the series that actually made me angry from how bad it was. Busta Rhymes...grrrr.....

"Lord of Tears" 4/10 - I had really looked forward to this one based on some positive buzz on the horror sites. Awkward & odd Scottish Indie. Interestingly shot, some beautiful landscape, very amateur acting. Ultimately unsatisfying.

"Into the Storm" 6/10 - Forgot to mention I took the oldest to see this a couple of weeks ago at her insistence. Actually not bad. Enjoyed more than expected. More of a story that I would have expected, bolstered by a variety of characters, & a good & clever usage of "shot on video/POV" footage from a variety of sources & contextually appropriate to give you a sense of really "being there" & of a "real" event.

I've seen some promo videos for that Lord of Tears film ... kind of prank videos where they dress their guy up like the beastie and hide in the dark corners of an abandoned building that gets a lot of curious visitors and urban explorers etc ... anyway, the guy creeps up on them and scares them. One guy properly freaked out after turned around to see it ... whether that was a legit reaction or not, I don't know, but it was an interesting promo idea.

Into the Storm - Sarah Wayne Callies is in that, isn't she? How was our "Lori" in it?

And Beorn, that great berserker and lordly beast master from the book, was given short shrift. For no good reason, he became this ogre like creature with none of the bearing and dark wit of his literary counterpart. I only just watched the second film for the first time yesterday, and as you could tell I wasn't that happy with it.

    Scott Pilgrim vs The World

    "I'm in lesbians with you"

Very late to the party with this one but enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Bonus points for a pretty good soundtrack with some great punkrock by Beck

Love me some Scott Pilgrim VS The World. Seen it numerous times now and have been over the blu-ray extras a couple of times. It took a couple of viewings to sink in for me, and reading the source graphic novels helped me enjoy it even more.

I would even bump it up to an 8 or 9, just because I relived some 80's Boss battles of my own while watching. And with all the kick-ass gals, from Romona Flowers (winsome Winstead ) to Julie Powers (Aubrey(Bleepin)Plaza ), epic cult film fun is to be had.

    Good Will Hunting

    3/5

Some aspects of it hasn't aged very well. It's way to sentimental in parts. Overall a good film.

Oh! I thought it was supose to be pretty good!?
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
