as i've said before, if i had my say with the halloween remake that RZ did, i would have made it a 3 hour epic remake of the whole story of October 31st in haddonfield.

after halloween 2, though, the series went to total shit in a heartbeat, at times cheesier than most nightmare on elm street movies.
I really like Halloween 1,2 & 4 as their own trilogy. The third movie gets a bad rap but if it was called something else NON-Halloween...it would be a cult classic.

The 3rd exorcist movie is very underrated. I like it a lot.

well, doc and mr. g, i gotta admit, the 4th halloween does have a few neat moments. it's decent at best, but that's where i draw the line.

i've always kinda associated 4 with 5 since danielle harris is in both and they were made very close to one another...but if i recall, part 5 is the one with the mysterious man in black who busts michael out of prison, then they dropped off for a handful of years, then the niece was pregnant and they blamed his problems on rune symbols, then busta ryhmes was hosting an internet show, then laurie strode wasn't dead after all, then she accidentally chopped off the ambulance driver's head,....ugh...gotta stop now, about to be ill.

They clearly jumped the shark after 4. You need a freaking PHD to understand the various plotlines of Halloween 5-8. I can suspend disbelief only for so long...

This. Without question. They turned Freddy from a scary-as-fuck killer into a stand up comedian with third degree burns. I fail to see how that's comical or scary. This is probably one of the worst offenses I can think of as far as sequels go.

    Others that need mentioning:

    Saw
    Poltergiest
    Amityville Horror
    Hellraiser
    Psycho
Halloween (I do like 2 & 4, but after that - wtf happened?!)
    Jaws
    American Psycho
    Scream
The Lost Boys (did we really need "The Tribe"? sheesh)
Texas Chainsaw (Although I'm sure some will cry for my head on a plate, I didn't even like the first one, much less the sequels after)

I could go on, but I'm sure that's enough fodder for now.

Hey, all of you dissing on "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors" can kiss my athlete's foot on my toes! The best Freddy flick with the most awesome soundtrack to any 80's film...

We're the dream warriors, yeah, maybe tonight you'll be gone!

lol, lemme rephrase that: What I meant was, Halloween didn't need sequels, although I liked 2 & 4, I just don't think they were necessary. Halloween could've stood on it's own and they could've left it at that.

JP - I'll admit, I love me some Dokken (Lynch was and continues to be one of my favorite guitarists ever), but the movie itself? Meh... Freddy was waaaay to much the comedian by the time Dream Warriors was released. Totally destoryed whatever evilness was left in the character. I mean, c'mon... "Welcome to prime time, bitch!"?? puh-lease.

I love ya but after the original NOES, the majority of Freddy was portrayed as doing stand up on amateur night.

Oh, I agree 100%, really. It's just a fact that I love some 80's Hair band music. You can't beat it.

I know it's not horror, but Highlander.

    There should've been only one.

Hmmm, probably most solid horror films should not have been turned into franchises and it would be easier for me to pick out those that I think were served well by one or more sequels.

However, I agree with those who have pointed out Jaws, Nightmare on Elm Street and the Lost Boys for special onerous consideration as examples of movies that were great in their own ways but with horrible, and horribly unnecessary, sequels.

Saw - never liked the first one and ignored the rest.

Hard to believe Saw has made that much.

    Halloween (10 films, 1978-2009) - $367m
A Nightmare On Elm Street (nine films, 1984-2009) - $447m
    Friday the 13th (12 films, 1980-2009) - $465m
    Scream (three films, 1996-2000) - $507m
    Saw (six films, 2004-2009) - $733m
