When presented in the way you present it, the theory seems highly plausible, and I think you shouldn't doubt yourself. The signs are there, I mean it was either poor writing from Romero - he decided he just couldn't be bothered fleshing out Stephen - or there is a multi-layered character with an ambiguous relationship with Fran. I think you could point to the scene where Fran is feeling ill, rather than welcome Stephen's support she quickly tries to make sure he leaves her; that suggests a rather strenuous bond.

Welcome to the board, Paradigm, it appears that you and I will get along just fine! But I do not doubt myself, I dont think that it was either intended by Romero, or that we should actually think it is true, I simply thought it was interesting (to me at least) that one could see it that way. I try to be very precise when I make a post, especially one pertaining to Dawn, and the thing that gets it not that people disagree, but they disagree or say that I am wrong based on their own mis-interpretation of what I said, rather than what I actually said. I find that whether it be on an internet message board, or in real life, people tend to not listen (or read) as intently as they could, and things like that lead to unnecesary disagreements. I cant count the times my boss has said "didnt you say..." and I have to tell her, "no, I went out of my way to say precisely this.....". If only I could be more precise on my spelling......I attribute that to trying to type too fast.

Which is most of the time I'm a huge Lost fan, so I tend to appreciate the tiniest details. The more times you see Dawn of the Dead, the more little bites you notice, it's great like that.
