Grindhouse looks great. I don't know about the chick with the leg cannon though.

If you're not into a little bit of velveeta, I suggest you don't even see "Grindhouse". It's supposed to have certain levels of cheese.

I read the other day that there will be parts where the screen will go black and say "Reel Missing". They're really trying to get that old, grindhouse cinema style going, man...

Maybe they're trying a bit too hard... The whole leg cannon thing looks to me like a bigger gimmick than Johnny Depp's third arm was in Once upon a time in Mexico and the Nintendo Wii is.

It's good to see Kurt Russell though.

Rob Zombie, Edgar Wright and Eli Roth have directed fake trailers for it apparently.

According to Fangoria, Rob Zombie is shooting a faux trailer called Werewolf Women of the S.S., featuring Nicolas Cage as Fu Manchu, Udo Kier as Adolf Hitler, and Zombie's wife, Sherri Moon Zombie, as SS officer Eva Krupp.

Oh yeah, the leg is definitely being used as a marketing strategy. I think it's a good idea, too. It's an image that kind of sticks in your head, ya know?

I have complete faith in Robert Rodriguez. None of his films have let me down. Even "Spy Kids", "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl", and "The Faculty" were quite entertaining for the style of films that they are.

Tarantino on the other hand, I don't know. His early films are excellent, but the "Kill Bill" films were lacking, in my opinion. It was entertaining, don't get me wrong. I know he was tipping his hat(which is what he's doing with "Grindhouse") to the old school martial arts flicks, but it just didn't have that spark that his earlier films have. I'm sure he knows what he's doing, though.

Actually, "Grindhouse" has that cheesy/gimmick stuff like "Kill Bill" has....so it will more than likely be more of an entertaining flick that just keeps you interested but not much else beyond that entertainment value. I'm pretty sure that I'll like it more than "Kill Bill" because I can relate to this material. Scratch that.....I know I'll like it more than "Kill Bill".

They are. It's in the spirit of the old grind house double feature presentations.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. This and Hot Fuzz are the two movies I'm most looking forward to this year.

Who wants to do a drunken movie night at Tarantino's? Show of hands.

This movie is so perfect. When it arrives on dvd, it will be one of those things you'll put on ritually with your pals over a few beers/substances and really rock out to. Kind of like a 230 minute double bill with fake trailers and product advertisements. The ultimate movie marathon. Really, I hope this whole approach to filmmaking sets a new trend and hopefully we might see a Grindhouse type-flick with Carpenter, Raimi and Romero at the helm. Wishful thinking I know but how cool would that be?

    Neil, nice find man.

I take it you mean 2 hours and 30 minutes...

Hell yeah I can't wait to see this film, I've always loved the grit and grunge of old school films, I wish I had a grungy old outdoor theatre nearby, I'd definately go all the time (and work there just to be around that vibe), but alas in this day and age it's all about DVD remastering and crispness ... so now we have to digitally recreate grit and grunge...

Regardless, roll on Grindhouse! Some honest sleaze is exactly what we need amidst all this seriousness and self-examination you find in so many films these days (including films in franchises that used to be all about ass kicking and not much more).

Now I'm all thinking about "Drive In Massacre" that I have on "remastered" DVD (if that's remastered then the remastering guy must have been blind or the source must have had sh*t wiped all over it ... ewww ... anyway, that has that grindhouse-like vibe about it ... despite being arse-flick-awful).

    w00t, 5,000th post.

    No, I mean 3 hours 50 minutes!

Edit: Since this post, the Capn has discovered that Grindhouse is 2 hours 30 minutes long and that Wikipedia is indeed a lying bastard.
