The show "The Vampire Diaries" would have to be the best from the lot of "Twilight"/"True Blood" etc. teen vampire things. It actually has an intelligent writing staff that isn't afraid to be tongue-in-cheek (or fang-in-cheek I should say). It's worth watching.

I become ill when I see people comparing Stephenie Meyer to Anne Rice. Anne is probably one of the most talented horror writers of all time and her work is amazing. I'd go as far as saying the novel "The Vampire Lestat" is probably one of the finest (if not finest) vampire novel ever written. Stephenie Meyer reminds me of young adult writers like "Goosebumps" from back in the early 90's. You can't compare them.

The whole "Twilight" thing is a terrible fad that should soon die. There's nothing wrong with a film/series being targeted at younger females if it's done RIGHT and is compelling story-telling. The "Twilight" series is neither. Stephen King has even gone so far as calling Stephenie Meyer: "A terrible writer" and he almost never publicly bad-mouth's anyone.

I can't believe there is such a thread soiling this message board. Y'all a bunch of nancy-pantsy amateurs.

These are vampire films made for ADULT MALES:

I'll never understand why most guys take this Twilight shit so personally. It's a movie....you're not required to view it. And if you do see it and don't like it - just move on rather than complaining every time a sequel is released.

Then you get the complaint of "oh those movies ruin the vampire and werewolf genres!". Bullshit. Those genres have had so many bad entries, there's nothing else that can ruin it any further.

Let the girls have their "dreamy, sparkly" vampires. I mean....what good would complaining do, anyway? Regardless of masses of men hating the films, they're still going to make serious money from the tweens. Besides, there are only 1 or 2 films left and it will all be over.

I think Kevin Smith nailed it. Twilight is Star Wars for girls. We could go round-and-round about how "star wars was better!", but everyone knows those films aren't for everyone either. Just as some older guys were seeing star wars as an outlandish and childish space fantasy, similar things could be said for Twilight.

Turn that finger around for a minute. We discuss zombie films on a daily basis. Most of which, are AWFUL. You think everyone's going to agree with that? We're in the same boat as the twilighters.

Because giving it a pass is tantamount to making excuses. This crap has been diluting the genre of HORROR MOVIES & TELEVISION since the retardation known as Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

People made excuses for it then, now look where it's gotten us. Horror is supposed to be scary, not corporate drivel manufactured for the tween mentality.

If you watched and enjoyed Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you are a tool and it's you're fault that contemporary "horror" films & television suck ass.

Because the genre was flawless before these newer movies and shows came along.

What does the special alone time I used to spend with myself while watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer have anything to do with horror?

It was all perfectly natural, I assure you. I used lanolin.

1.) Nobody ever said anything about "flawless." Straw man argument debunked.

2.) It may help to actually watch a movie with William Marshall portraying Prince Mamuwalde prior to pretending you know what you're talking about.

No, but you're claiming it all started with Buffy. I'm just saying that there were awful vampire films long before that...

Actually, I agree. The women of the Hammer films (wasn't there a book of the same title???) were usually classically beautiful.

She kicked major ass in Man on Fire, however.
She also did coraline, which was pretty good as well.

Well that's, like, your opinion man.

motherfuck this noise, buffy was great. people are just desensitized from 80's horror going to over the top to the point of becoming a satire of itself. don't blame it on buffy when the damage was long done.

or did freddy krueger rapping with the fat boys happen less than 20 years ago?

    Hey J.,

Have you ever met a girl that didn't take an opportunity to rip apart "stupid guy movies" like Romero's Holy Trilogy or the Holy "Star Wars" trilogy? I'm just releasing some steam man, that's all. These "Twilight" films are just so terrible I can't help but comment on their suckiness. Girls do the same about attacking our 'guy' films we love, it's only fitting I bitch/whine about the terrible nature of their beloved "Twilight" shit.

The only thing that really gets under my skin (see above) is when idiots mistake Stephenie Meyer as anything other than an amateur young-adult author. Anyone who compares her writing to Anne Rice, Poppy Z. Brite, or actual talented ADULT horror novelists just upsets me.
