I was wondering the same thing while I was filming this. The most logical explanation would be it wasn't propane in the tank, but some sort of insulation or something of the sorts... and the tank exploded in the sunlight, which made the leftover stuff dry out and expand and look like a disgusting growth.

Just my guess, though. Could be some weird fungus!

Nice videos mike! I always wonder how places of that size end up being abandoned like that, what they were like when they were new, who lived/worked there etc. The military ones are often the creepiest, there always seems to be something a bit sinister about them, especially when most of them are underground, closely followed by the hospitals & asylums!

I agree, these videos were bad ass. Reminds me of those creepy photos of Chernobyl Russia. Creepy!

The guy who wrote "First Blood" has a book about UrbEx gone horrific...

Used to be a few lads on a flashlight forum who were into this kind of stuff, sounds cool...but I like to think I was a pioneer in respect that me and my mates were crawling around old abondoned places when we were kids...but so were most kids I suppose.

Not something I've seen personally, but I thought some of you would be interested in THIS. Especially you NY'ers.

If you ride the 6 train to the end of the line and get off at the Brooklyn Bridge stop, you're missing out on something incredible. As the train loops around to go back uptown, it passes through an abandoned and beautifully preserved City Hall station from 1904.

The city closed the station in 1945, mostly because at its height only 600 people a day used it, and because the loop created an unsafe gap at the platform. In 1995 the city vowed to restore the site and turn it into a part of the transit museum, but those plans were scrapped years later.

The station is still not open to the public, but there's a trick you can use to see it for yourself. Until recently the MTA would force passengers to get off before the train made the loop, but now passengers are allowed to stay on. So the next time you reach the end of the line, keep going.

I would love to see this in person. It also reminds me of the river of slime subway in Ghostbusters 2. heh heh.

That is beautiful. They don't build anything like that anymore do they?
