Of course, that's all due to us and our witty & eriudite observations of the program; from the day it was first announced...

7.3 mil? damn, that is impressive. with breaking bad ending next year, they surely will be able to divert more funding towards the budget for this and keep this show going.

I hope the show gets a long long run. I know some on this forum aren't too jazzed about the show due to a perceived "soap opera-ish" foremat, but for me, I'm pretty much hooked.

Agreed. I don't see it as a soap opera at all. It's a good drama. Same with Breaking Bad, which is the best show on tv, imo.

Even with blemishes, and I certainly maintain there are some, it's miles better than most zombie films that come out. There have been and will continue to be WTF moments as the show goes along, I just hope they stay (despite some veering away already done) with a somewhat grounded approach to the characters.

I don't know if any of you caught that interview with (I forget his name) TWD writer/co-director (?) following the premiere. He was asked why the zombies couldn't smell the characters hiding under the cars. He shrugged his shoulders and said something like they only added that ability to their zombies in season 1 to convey that theirs were a little different from the zombies in other films (paraphrasing of course). But the way my brain works, I remember things like that and was puzzled when they didn't detect the characters under the cars. Even my girlfriend who really isn't into the whole zombie thing remembered that aspect from season 1 and asked me about during that scene. I was like, "Dunno... maybe there's a strong smell of gasoline or something."

I think Kirkman said that zombies arent bloodhounds. Add in gasoline, rotting corpses and food and its plausable that they couldn't smell the group.

I've never been completely convinced that the walkers can smell the living. After all, we just have the people in episode 102 assuming that's how they know. Much like the Venus Probe in Night, it's just a theory. That doesn't make it the fact of the series.

They could've just as easily passed by those walkers in the same way Shaun and his friends and family did. They were acting like zombies and were also gory like most walkers. For me, that's enough for them to sneak by as long as they did. After all, the walkers didn't attack until Glenn foolishly started panicking and talking to Rick.

Even if Kirkman wants to stick to the smell-but-no-bloodhound theory, i'm still thinking it could have just been the appearance and performances...
