Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. I find it's the exact opposite, really. I think it's very up-lifting....

    Olympus Has Fallen - 6.5/10

An enjoyable enough distraction for the running time. Like a bloody and sweary version of White House Down ... although I think I preferred WHD over OHF.

I watched the Robocop remake the other night, and while it isn't a patch on the original by a long, long shot, it wasn't as bad as I had been led to believe. 6.5/10

I watched the Robocop original last weekend, and though the profanity and graphic violence was edited for TV, still a sharp satire of urban decay and corporation greed. 8/10

^^ Definately want to see this!

Tried to see it at the cinema when it was doing its rounds, but for some strange reason it was only being shown at my local cinema on the smallest screen, at 4:30pm each day! So didn't see it

    'Avengers - Age of Ultron'

    5/10

Is it weird to say that I prefer a normal 2:35.1 screen to IMAX and "normal" vision to 3D?

Definitely not weird to prefer traditional 2D as opposed to 3D. As for 2.35:1 to IMAX....with Ultron aren't only certain scenes converted to the IMAX aspect ratio? And even then, I could be wrong, but I was thinking the first Avengers was shot in 1.85:1? If Ultron carried that over, I would imagine the transition to IMAX scenes would be less jarring, no? I haven't seen the film yet, just thought it wouldn't be the "full" widescreen ratio.

According to the IMDB 'Avengers - The Age of Ultron' has an aspect ration of 2.35:1 and an IMAX screen is 1.43:1, which, if I'm not incorrect, means that the sides of film were cropped to fit the full screen?

Sort of makes a nonsense of the "IMAX experience"

Plus 3D...jesus, the old mince pies were livid after that. I must admit though that there were some sequences that were absolutely stunning.

    The Paperboy - 5/10

Too sleazy to be taken seriously, too serious to be enjoyably sleazy. Also, at times, it feels like there's scenes missing - little jumps in plot, almost - and the plot feels like a series of interesting elements that don't really gel together. Some interesting stuff in there, but it's kinda 'meh' in the end.

    ...

I've seen a few films in 3D and it's still just a gimmick, it can be used well or it can be used as simply a way to extract more cash out of your wallet (usually it's the latter). Frankly, if the film is rubbish, shoved some 3D on top of it isn't going to help.

As for IMAX - I've never been, personally ... although I do thoroughly enjoy a lovely 2.35:1 aspect ratio - it feels properly cinematic to me, whereas 1.85:1 is now just the standard. In Christopher Nolan's films like The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, the Blu-Ray switches from 2.35:1 to 1.85:1 (the latter being the 'IMAX shots') and sometimes I notice it while sometimes I don't - and occasionally it has an added 'epic' feel to it, but it's never really going to work well on any screen that isn't IMAX I'd imagine.

One of these days I'll see something in IMAX.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 8.5/10

Thought it was thoroughly good with a solid, clear, and well told story. Good to see a smart blockbuster, too, that shows up the futility of man's propensity for violence.
