Just read the comic first, MZ.

    Please?

Just grab, or order from Amazon, a copy of the 1st collection (not the hard cover, which would be a more substantial investment). It's relatively cheap. As low as 4.89 pounds on Amazon.uk--just checked.

    Trust me. Alright?

When i was down there, i spoke briefly to a guy on the crew. He mentioned that the main character (who i took to be Rick) hides in the tank for a while. i was really trying to get a better look at the tank, but he wouldn't let me go any further.

hehe, we might have to do some of those weird office trust exercises first.

Seriously though, yeah I might just do that ... so much stuff to read at the moment, but I might do that actually and try it out. I've never really been much of one for comics or graphic novels, but I have dabbled here and there ... maybe I'll dip my dabble into The Walking Dead ... ... actually that sounds perverted ... but I did intend for it to sound perverted, so...

Jesus in a handbasket! ELEVEN VOLUMES?!

Anyone know which volumes the TV show will cover? Will it just cover Volume 1? Had a "look inside" ... looks badass.

And wait ... there's "books", "compendiums" and "volumes"? Sheesh ... complex enough for a newbie-to-the-series like me! What's the difference between the "books" and the "volumes", or is there no such difference and it's just websites labelling it all in silly ways?

I don't think there's a definitive answer, but I remember reading that the first 2-3 seasons will cover the entire series as it stands now. Of course by the time they get to the third season, there could be new issues...

Right ... think I'll go with one story/six issue Volumes, rather than two story/twelve issue Books, or indeed the monster 48 issue Compendium ... thanks Wikipedia!

First up - Volume One. Look out everyone, MZ's about to begin climbing a franchise mountain ... naturally, I expect a hushed silence to fall across the thread as I take my first steps.

That's the main reason I think this is going to be so good - Darabont.

    *fingers crossed for zombie awesomeness*

Thanks for all the pictures, especially the fan ones great job on those.

Rick looks interesting and the shot of him walking away from the car is so very much like what you see in the comic.

    Just amazing.

I would agree, if you have not read the comics even if you are not a comic person you can not go wrong here. The writer is one of the best in the industry today hands down and the art at first was the best I had seen in a long time.

I am beyond stoked for this series.

Well, it sure looks like there are runners in this one. The chicks hair and clothes all whipping around in the air like that and the one guy in the red shirt is in mid sprint.

I bet Kirkman went into this insisting shamblers only but then the AMC "marketing consultants" got involved and said "This isn't watch the paint dry 1968 Pennsylvania farmland. The zombies we want are a social commentary to the modern fast paced big city. Make them run, OR ELSE!"

I guess he could go the passive aggresive rout and make every running zombie shot in slow motion.

funny, but seriously....AMC isn't the kind of network to produce a show called "the WALKING dead" and make them anything like the 28 d/w later films or yawn04, ghey08, or the shitty l4d games.

AMC will just say that the "Walking Dead" refers to the wandering survivors who all will eventually succumb to the apocalypse that surrounds them. Most of the studio execs only want flash and excitement which sells to the mma/wwe watching 20-35 year old male demographic.

I really do hope that the Walking Dead doesn't fall into that trap but I am getting worried.

You take that back about L4D! Bub would probably have a blast playing that game online with zombie Ed, Fido, and Big Daddy.

I'd have to disagree, they don't look like they're going that fast. There could be wind blowing the hair and clothes about a bit too, and plus Darabont himself has said in the vlogs that he's going with Night of the Living Dead as his guide, with no zombie moving faster than Bill Hinzman.

He wouldn't publically announce such a decision if he wasn't allowed to do it. Besides, with TWC being written around shamblers, it'd be odd to make them runners, as surely you'd significantly change the dynamic of the property as a result.

I'm sticking to the idea that they're more like joggers, or not-that-fast stumblers. Surely there has to be some middle ground between Olympic zombies and slow, relentless eating machines?

    Olympic zombies - LOL!
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
