I'm shocked. I found JW to be quite an enjoyable film and easily the best Jurassic Park film since Speilberg's original. What were some of the main things that you disliked?

I've not seen Jurassic World yet, but want to. Heard basically only good things about it ... until now. Good old, shoot.

Would be interested to get a sense of what you don't like about it as well, shoot - but without spoilers, please.

Don't read this if you haven't seen the picture.

The kids are awful for a start. Chris Pratt and his taming of the velociraptors just simply never convinces for a single second and is always silly. People do really dumb things to move to the next set piece. House prices Dallas (thanks Mark Kermode) is a terrible character, in a film of generally terrible characters, bar one or two. The annoying raptors/T-Rex "good guys" angle. The stupid subplot of the army wanting to use dinosaurs as a weapon is...well...just absolutely stupid. I never once cared what was happening and some of the CG is woeful.

@Bassy - it may well be the best sequel since Jurassic Park (although the film doesn't take them into account), but that ain't saying much considering 'Jurassic Park II' and 'Jurassic Park III' were pants. Especially the second one...gawd!!!

BTW, I've always been a great fan of the Spielberg original, which I consider one of his best, since 'Jaws', which I consider his zenith.

I'll give you some of those. But I don't think they really hurt the film as a whole. I for one was pleasantly surprised by the flick and basically expected it to be shite. To each his own!

As for the tamed raptors, that was one of my biggest fears going into this film. The trailers and promotional items made it seem like such a stupid idea and I expected to laugh my ass off at it. Surprisingly, I thought the film handled this plot very well and made it believable that Pratt's character was so invested in the "cleva girls".

Yeh, it wasn't as bad as it could have been. But I simply couldn't accept it from the start. The very idea is idiotic. It also just didn't need to be in the picture at all. It added nothing to the story. Neither did the Humgosaurus Rex, or whatever it was called.

I guess watching 'Jurassic Park' before I saw 'Jurassic World' may have coloured my view some what. I may watch it again at a later stage, but I was very disappointed with it.

    'Poltergeist'(2015)
Not even Sam Rockwell, who is one of my favorite actors, could save this movie. It's yet another in a long list of pointless, soulless cash grabs. It's basically an exact remake of the original with updated special effects, with the biggest alteration being that we see the parallel dimension or "Ghost world". And truthfully, that is something that works much better when its left to the imagination of the viewer. 4/10

    'Prisoners'
Great thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout and sports some fantastic performances from its highly talented cast. 8/10

'Return of the Living Dead Part II'
I decided to revisit this sequel for the month of October. As most of you know, I'm not a big fan of Rotld, but I have lightened up on it in recent years, so I went into this first sequel with quite an open mind. A few good laughs, some silly cheesiness, and 80's camp make for a goofy fun time. 6/10

    1) I might even skip it entirely when it eventually lumbers around on to the TV circuit. I've heard nothing but mediocre things about it.

    2) I re-watched it a while ago myself, after a few years away. When I was a teen I loved it, but now my view has mellowed. I still dig it, but the first movie is much better by comparison (and in general). This reminds me, I must give that ROTLD documentary a re-watch (a thoroughly good doc, highly recommended for all ROTLD fans).

Damn straight. A stone cold classic. It's one of those flicks that I have a really hard time peeling away from whenever I happen upon it when it's playing on telly.
