Say what you will about Mitchified, at least he knows his Brooks.
    Wait... I'm the only Mitch'-basher on here, aren't I? I'm sorry, Mr. Fied. I... I'm an asshole.

If Brooks wanted nothing to do with making WWZ into a movie, then why did he sell the movie rights in the first place?

I don't want to make this about Fast Vs. Slow zombies,
However, my focus as far as a WWZ movie has and remains on the notion that the movie would at least vaguely follow after the book. You can change a lot of things from the book and still make a WWZ-based movie work. For example, instead of the individual interview formats, they could go for a linear plotline like a typical movie, but with a plot that showcases interaction with and exposition from the more interesting individuals from the book-interviews. I could see a Main Protagonist Model working for having the protagonist encounter the woman who sees the spirits of the people the zombies once were trapped/tied to their now undead bodies. All you'd need is a reason to get such a protagonist traveling to begin with, then finding himself in the locale where this "spiritualist zombie-slayer" does her thing could work very well to showcase her "story" without a ton of exposition. Just pitching in and helping her do her thing for a bit before moving on would give the highlights-version of her story.

Same deal with several individuals interviewed in the book.

Unfortunately, Brad Pitt has the Uwe Boll Touch. Ie: Everything Pitt touches turns to shit. The more I hear, the stronger my conviction becomes that this movie (If it even gets fully made) is going to try to substitute a large budget and bunches of SFX for real story and well-portrayed characters.

About Brooks...he's said a few times that he doesn't want to "get bogged down" in horror fiction in general, and zombies in specific. He even goes so far in a Fangoria interview as to say that Romero's career "is something of a cautionary tale, which demonstrates the major potential for the directorial equivalent of typecasting as far as zombie movies and books are concerned."

I remember the interview because it struck me as odd that the man had such an ambivalent outlook on the zombie genre as a whole, when it was his Survival Guide and WWZ that put him on the map.

    Just saying.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Seriously though, the book's strong finish was the linear sequence of events which began with the President rallying the troops, and ended with the retaking of the severely infested White Zones. The last 15-20% of the book lends itself very well to being adapted into a standard sort of movie plotline. Unlike the first 80% of the book, where the interviews hopscotch through wildly different walks of life, with the only common thread running through them all being that they're accounts from survivors of what they did during the WWZ-era.

Since reading the post on here that indicated they were going with zombies that can't be destroyed in the traditional manner, ala Return, I've tried (and failed) to envision any of the survivor accounts in the novel being adapted into a movie version that uses zombies that can't be put down. I suppose that the Battle of Yonkers could still be portrayed in a reasonably faithful manner, but several of the other accounts become outright no-go's. The old blind guy who developed the anti-zombie martial art in Japan...his story wouldn't work, because a mute zombie would've killed him, relying as he did on their moans as they approached. Again, neither would the story of the woman who sees the souls of the dead trapped/connected to their undead bodies, which motivated her to start killing zombies to release said spirits. Already gone through the reclamation of America from the zombies....so, once you eliminate the Interviews that don't work at all with Return-zombies, what's really left to make a movie out of?

    W0r1d W4r Z (2012)

An action packed comedy starring Brad Pitt as the leader of a rag tag group of zombie killers including hollywood's hottest young stars like Justin Bieber (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never), Robert Pattinson (Twilight), Justin Timberlake (Friends with Benefits) and Emma Roberts (The Art of Getting By) in a world where the dead won't stay dead!

One of the only pieces I liked from the budget draft:
Passing over the Statue of Liberty: Park Rangers and NYPD
aiming small arms up at the helicopter, not firing, just
    warning. A homemade sign reads:
    UNWELCOME

I dunno, the windmilling of arms and gnashing of teeth almost makes this more entertaining than the decently conceived and passably written source material.

But, people, can someone please use the words "MTV Generation" (or some version thereof) in the pejorative in the next few posts...there is a quota you know!

    *Malcom Ingram mode on*

It's this goddamned popcorn-sucking MTV-without-the-music Generation, and all their goddamned Jersey Shores and MTV Cribs who are bringing down society at large!

    *Malcom Ingram mode off*

Although there is a certain category of moron who genuinely does fit that bill, and they are a hindrance to the gene pool of humanity at large ... fact.

If Ed Harris is involved I'll give it a chance. The man is an exceptional actor. While I vehemently dislike Brad Pitt if Ed Harris is going to be involved I just got re-interested again.
