I know plenty of people with cool cameras making awesome movies that don't get any pussy But seriously though, the camera is awesome, but you could do many of the same things and have most of the same functions for much cheaper with the Canon 7d (or the 5d for slightly more money), or the Nikon d90. That isn't to say that I wouldn't take a 1D if I had the money, but it isn't exactly in the price range for most of the indie/amateurs here.

The only problem I have with the camera is the 1.3x crop factor. No full frame, which is a shame 'cause it's not like the technology isn't there. Then again, that would boost the price by god knows how much, so it's probably why they didn't include it. Regardless, this is the most fantastic video i've ever seen shot with a DSLR. "You get full manual exposure control, stereo mic input, and 1080p video at 24, 25 or 30fps; 720p and standard def at 50 or 60fps" Where do I sign up?! (after I win the lottery, of course.. )

I have thought long and hard about picking up a few of the canons (have been saving for a Red for a while) but the reason I say no and would advise against picking up any dslr for film purpose is this.... The dirty secret that is well hidden in propaganda for the dslr revolution... "Rolling shutter" aka "Jello effect" Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qC0_nIUq9s To avoid this you have to go to great lengths and in most situations it is simply not avoidable... So if you plan to shot with little to no cam movement....Or you have access to VERY expensive cranes and dolly's (Which if you did you may as well shot with Red or 35mm) Then a dslr like the 5d will do ya.. Other then that if you are gonna spend 5 grand Wake up sucka... Hold out for the Scarlet which should be coming soon.(supposedly this summer).... Shot in 3k...not 1080. So I decided to take the plunge and pick up a canon hdslr as a b-camera as Scarlet it taking abit too long. I will be doing some test shots pretty soon and post em up. It is a fantastic b-cam or great for films to do not require any fast movement or car mount scenes. The image you get from these camera's is pretty damn close to Red and 35mm and is pretty much unbelievable.

The 7D is a great camera. the HV20 looks like crap. I watched the video and see what you mean by Jello Effect

pretty much all of new Canon's since 5d mkII are amazing...7d,50d... only real difference is the is the 5d has a full frame and the 7d and 50d is a 1.6 crop sensor. other then that as far as the video function they are all pretty close.

My only issue with shooting DSLR is that it still doesn't have a 2.4:1 native ratio which is why I am holding out to shoot on a Red One, but will go with the Sony EX3 which i now own, although it doesn't do native 2.4:1, but it is a nice set up.

In the end no cameras really shoot anamorphic footage...they do a squeeze and you loose pixels... Use a anamorphic lens with no loss of image quality.

Some test footage with the T2i and the la7200 anamorphic adadpter.... Most of these shots were run and gun and not properly exposed.. This was done on a location scout... But this is actual cinemascope and not matted.. Nor pixel squeeze... Also worth mentioning is this is shot in a color profile called "superflat" as to preserve the most amount of information for post color.. So its no where near vivid.. And lastly I used a long zoom so don't expect to see any real shallow DOF.
