The Revenant (film) - Leonardo DiCaprio

Saw this last night at a preview.

There's a couple of great scenes and some lovely cinematography. But it felt a little bit too self-indulgent and too self-important at times, and for all the horror DiCaprio's character had to endure, I never really felt for him much unfortunately. At times very captivating/grueling though!

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. Don't let me put you off... It has some great bits... But some aspect I felt just didn't work so well...

I'll probably see it anyway. There's few enough films that get me off my ass and into the cinema these days. So many just aren't worth the bother.

There was talk about it being shot chronologically and completely with natural light too if that floats your boat!
