2 Dawn Of The Dead 8' Inch Castaway Figures

Does anyone know any information on these? I seen them on eBay and the seller got them from an estate sale. I assume they are custom. The headless looks like parts from one of the REDS figures. I posted a thread on our zombie memorabilia forum, but nobody knows. Check them out below.

These 2 popped up on eBay last week and sold for $60.00.

Made by Castaway Toys, Cloth, 8 Inch.

Not sure if these are custom made. Need to know.

Also, need to know the date they were released.

    Is there anymore of them?

Hmmm, this card package is sporting the old Mego logo.

    Next silly question!

Crap, sorry didn't realize that. I don't see a place to upload the images here.

Is that the official Mego logo? I don't remember anything released from them like this.

Yes, that is what an official Mego logo looked like in the mid 70s: Mego Spiderman courtesy the MegoMuseum.com I recall all the Micronauts toys having this same logo.

And no, Mego never produced any Dawn of the Dead toys. Do you really think they would have gotten away with selling blood-splattered headless figures to children in the 1970s? Remember the controversy which led to Kenner pulling the 18" ALIEN figure from store shelves?

I simply pointed out the knocked-off Mego logo to demonstrate this obvious lame attempt at "custom" figures, if you can even call them that (it's an iinsult to the folks that do good custom work). This isn't the first time an Ebay seller uses the excuse of an "estate sale" to purposely obscure the source of an item, and it certainly won't be the last.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I'll mark these up as customs.

And yeah, 1970's Aliens. I just wanted to be 100% positive. I can't believe you remember that.

    Again, thanks for the help.

Frankly, I wouldn't include these figures in any memorabilia database because it simply encourages more people to list bogus items on ebay without any verification or information. DEAD is better.

haha sorry I didn't see this. Yeah, I'm OCD like that. I have to keep track of even custom stuff while doing the Archives. My wife hates it, but I don't mind. I actually thought about a FAN MADE archive section or maybe a new site all together.. maybe down the road. But, I'm too busy with the official one.
