I really think that's a big part of what makes Dawn of the Dead work for me - the friendship and cameraderie of the main characters; they have their ups and downs but they don't fight and bitch all the time, it makes me really care about their little group and hope that everything turns out okay for them. Most of Romero's other movies tend to focus a lot on disagreements and in-fighting amongst the human protagonists (and deliberately so - that's the point he's trying to make and I'm cool with it), which sort of takes away from the sense of hope that makes Dawn so much fun. |
