Golden Globe nomination for WD

You see, George, if you put some effort into developing character and plot, rather than writing about how to kill zombies with different gags, you may might have gotten the same recognition. I don't intend for this post to sound "smarmy" or disrespectful, in case it comes across that way. I just wish the man who really made three great films would put the zombies in his movie as a background to the characters.

How bout some info on the actual nomination? Edit: After searching, it's only up for best drama tv series. Against Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, The Good Wife, and Mad Men. Andrew Lincoln got the shaft for best male performance. He deserves the nomination for the first episode alone....

While the show didn't score oodles of nods, which I sort of expected it wouldn't it still got a nod in best TV Drama category and against some mighty heavy weights. Just to be nominated along side those shows is an honor.

Why is it that so many around here can't seem to express their appreciation for TWD without having a go at Romero? Give the guy a break. He owes you nothing.

Because his work has deteteriorated to the level of a sy-fy original film. From someone who is capable of so much more as we have seen, it's heartbreaking. And no, i don't believe Night, Dawn and Day are flukes. One time is a fluke. Or perhaps 3 films made within a 4 year span. Striking while to iron is hot so to speak, but not 3 films over a 17 year span. It's a certain formula he goes back to and uses when it suits him so why isn't he uses it anymore? So it is inexplicable to most of us how the quality of film can vary so wildy from masterpiece to sy-fy original. And no, I don't want another DAWn. I don't think any of us want him to keep making the same film over and over. But like everything else, there are fundamentals to good, captivating film making and it seems to be something he has lost.

Yeah, i can understand your disappointment. And those recent films of his aren't as good as the original trilogy. Very few horror films are. I just don't think they are as crap as so many think. They are just small, enjoyable zombie flicks with a bit more intelligence than your run of the mill horror film. For me, that is. I just don't get the constant GAR-bashing. As if the old guy cares. He made three true classics and basically invented a whole subgenre.

Why is it that so many around here can't seem to express their appreciation for TWD without having a go at Romero? Because at this point the two are fused together at the hip like siamese twins, chained together for all eternity. You CAN'T have one without the other. There is a curse on the land that you must insult GAR in the same breath as any praise of TWD or else millions will die, cities will fall, nations will crumble, the mongols will invade, the world will as'plode, the sun will go nova, the universe will fold in on itself, bloody mary will appear behind you, etc, etc, etc. I hope this has been helpful.

I agree that it's kinda silly to bring up Romero in every TWD discussion, but it's just one of those things. When you're held as the king or creator of something, you're always going to be compared to those similar that follow. Like I mentioned in another thread, it's like watching a shark movie and NOT comparing it to Jaws. It's bound to come up in discussion. As the creator of the modern zombie, Romero has that comparison to deal with. TWD isn't the first to be compared to his work and it won't be the last....

It cuts both ways doesn't it. If people are going to compare GAR's work against terrible zombie movies, they must be willing to compare them against superior works as well. He is probably the single most closely associated individual in the world when it comes to the zombie genre. Same with Matheson and the "I Am Legend" remakes really. Edit: GAR's first three zombie films are the benchmark for me...anything else I watch is instantly compared to them. TWD will become the benchmark of zombie TV series, I will never be able to watch another zombie series without comparing it to TWD (and let's hope we get plenty of chances to do just that).
