UK FOLK - Petition against live music legislation...

    http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/licensing/

Basically, Labour are at it again - what's "it"? - MEDDLING.

Basically they're look to make anyone playing live music have to pay for a license, it's unnecessary, just a way of making money and ultimately crushes freedom and is just plain old mean spirited.

I've signed it, there's nearly 60,000 signatures thus far.

Wish I could sign it, but I'm in America .

What exactly will they gain from this except resentment from the people?

If I had a penny for every petition I've signed since joining HPotD, I'd be worth exactly 5p.

I wish I could sign it. That's bullsh*t of maximum proporitions.

So they want bands, basically, to have to 'pay to play'?

Maybe because its defacto censorship. If you are broke they steal your voice. And lots and lots of musicians are broke.
What a bunch of greedy Bastards.
That is totally contrary to a tradition that probably exists from when people started playing music. That being you dont need a friggin permit and permission (because thats what it is) to play music.
If they can grant it, they can deny it.
    USSR anyone?

Not even my country and it pissed me off.

    Ya damn right.

I did a short documentary at Uni called "sounds of the city" about the buskers in and around Norwich, and that gave me a brief glimpse into them and why they're out there, and the story was always the same - in need of money with no other prospects, many of whom were homeless. So this bullshiite comes along, and essentially, stop a homeless person from earning a 'street wage' to scratch together enough cash for a bacon butty or a pack of fags, or some food for their dog.

Typical Labour - control-control-control - and if at all possible, seek to make money out of ANYTHING, and even if it doesn't need it, add in some red tape and beaurocracy to f*ck everyone off a whole load.

tories will be the same though. they were, and will be again. mark my words...

this is why i'm gonna move to canada...two party politics is alright, but when its just the same old neo con rubbish, where we just wait for the PR of the incumbent party to deterioriate so badly that the other bunch of jokers' sins are forgotten and they begin to somehow look like a viable replacement...i dunno, it's just a joke.

Because everyone's too busy getting pissed up/getting pregnant/sleeping/ignoring the problems/fleeing the country/surfing for porn/working to pay all the tax demanded of them/getting ASBOs for clipping thugs around the ear.
