Please Help: Order of shooting for DOTD 78

Upon looking at dawn with some friends the other day ago, the question came up as to which sequence the scenes in DAWN 78 were shot. Obviously, I have heard as most have that this movie was in no way shot sequentially -- that is, shot in order that the scenes appear in the movie. This leads me to my question and my plea for help from those here that are extremely well informed as to this particular GAR film.

Does anyone know the shooting sequence for DOTD? What was shot first, what was shot last, etc. Most helpful would be if someone here knows where I might be able to find the exact order of shooting, or (better yet) if someone in the know might be able direct me to whatever documents might still exist from the film that might indicate the shooting sequences from back then. I was thinking maybe someone here might know if this might be found in an archive somewhere, perhaps at Carnegie Mellon U.

Any help at all, either posted here in this thread or sent to me in a PM would be greatly appreciated.

I am at your mercy and in your debt, brothers and sisters!

What you need are the call sheets (which are handed out daily to cast and crew members) as that would give you the information you are looking for.

Aside from someone who worked on the film and saved their call sheets - an archive would be your best place to look for them. Not sure if one is set up in Pittsburgh..

Usually the assistant director will write up the call sheets - sometimes the production manager. Depends on how the individual production is set up.

Productions reports which normally are made each day for the studio to see what is being filmed would be another source for the information you are looking for. Call sheets would probably be easier to locate.

According to interviews with the actors, the location scenes were shot first and then filming was moved to the mall. This would makes sense with what Savini has stated in commentaries in that Taso Stavrakis joined him on stunts and effects after filming began at the mall.

As always, a virtual encyclopedia of all things DOTD!

    Thanks, Dubious.

No problem. See David Emge interview here.

It was odd, because we started out doing lots of location stuff around Pittsburgh, and I guess that was for maybe a month. And then, we had to start shooting in the mall, and this was after Thanksgiving. And the mall was totally decorated up for Christmas, so there was a lot of stuff we couldn't get done, because no matter where you looked, they was a Christmas 'thing' in the store, or in the window…in the hallways, etc.

So, we took off from the early part of December for a couple weeks until after Christmas and then went back and did a lot of the interior stuff in the mall after a lot of the Christmas decorations had been taken down. And we wrapped on around February 14. I did, anyway -- so it was actually several months that we were there.

Obviously Jimbo does. I think it's a great question and it's what these forums are for.

What these forums aren't for, however, is trolling/flaming, which seems to be all you pretty much do. I don't know how you haven't been banned yet.

I suppose we all have our bad days but yeah, it's a bit of a reckless quote from someone who's clearly been given their last warning.

Thanks Mike and Cap for the support and Monro for the additional info.

SoCal, apparently you don't find my question interesting and I am sorry to hear that. To answer your question, I have always been interested in the filmaking process and since Dawn of the Dead is among my favorites and put together by George Romero, who is in my opinion a great director, I find information of this sort interesting.

Like the addition of the screwdriver zombie gag to cover the continuity issue of Roger's looted windbreaker. I think the screwdriver scene is awesome and find the story about why and how they came up with that shot to be very interesting.

Perhaps you were having a bad day and became annoyed by a post that did not interest you. Or perhaps you just felt like being rude-I've been there too, so I can relate. Whatever the case might be, I realize that not all posts are going to appeal to everyone. I do promise that should you or anyone else for that matter posts a thread about something that I could care less about that I will simply ignore it rather than publishing a response of sheer ambivalence.
